Did a bit of reading on this site in the last couple days….Somewhere it was mentioned that some RX-1’s were having trouble with arching on the spark plugs….Well man have I got it bad…I just took off all the coils and they are totally full of soot or carbon of some sort…I removed the rubber boots from the coil’s and took a new plug to tried it in each…The plug just falls right out of the coil…..The plug coil actually has no grip what so ever on the plug…The only thing keeping the coil on the plug is the rubber boot…so needless to say I have very poor contact between the two…..Now what…..Am I going to have to replace the coils….I can’t run like this…no wonder my sled seemed to be getting a bit slower on top end……looks like I had 4 little fires on top of my motor…..Got any ideas…JD

Get the updated coils. If you are the original owner maybe Yamaha will foot the bill.

What year's your sled? I believe that most of the coil arcing came from 03's.... The 04 coils (shorty or Warrior) are supposed to have eliminated that.

My RX-1 is a 2003…I am the original owner…and I hope you are right…I just got off the phone with the dealer I purchased from and he quoted me $115.00 each…That’s $524 with tax…
I now have a # for Toronto service…I will be calling them tomorrow…man I am not having a good day….

bought mine used. brought back to the same dealer I bought it from and yamaha is taking care of it. I had 3 out of 4 coils arcing.
