Also remember it will flow towards the rear while it was driven.

YEAH.... I am not a dummy I am just posting to see if anyone else has ever had bad oil leak and where the problematic areas would be to look. Thanks for all the info people!
Mine went about 500 miles too before it blew oil out. Im sure thats what happened to it...at least you didn't blow it upsledneck22 said:I can see where you would think it is the filter but the funny thing is I bet he has 500 miles on it this year. It just baffles me that if it was double o-ringed that it would last that long before it blew the second ring out. I can see this happening if it was only 50 miles or so. He rode the sled pretty hard for a while previous to our ride last night but last night we were going slow and easy hardly ever hard on the motor because our trails are severly icy right now. Ohh well we will find out tonight when we have a chance to tair it apart and look it over.

Re: hole in crankcase cover
Damn. LOL. I should get out of engineering and go into fortune telling. It would appear that I have a knack for it.
It is really hard to guess at the cause from looking at the picture (it is a bad picture), however, it does slightly look like it broke OUTWARD.
Are we certain that there is no debris bouncing around inside the engine?
Might help the guessing if you could post a better picture of the damage, from the inside as well as the outside, very high resolution with an actual digital camera, with a fixed mount (i.e. on a tripod or sitting on a table so it doesn't move).
Another thing I would be very concerned about is potential engine damage. Are you certain that the engine didn't run dry? If it did, then it will need to be taken apart, and at the minimum, new conrod bearings.

I lied guys, sorry for the picture but it was taked with a phone. It is not a hole in the crankcase but a hole in the chaincase. I was on my phone when I posted that message so I didn't proof it very well. Apparently he knows a guy that can weld cast alluminum half way decent so they are going to try that first if not it will be a new chaincase cover for him. Anyone have a totaled Nytro??? They looked at the plastic under the chaincase and turns out somthing puncture through and hit it. Could have been a fence post buried in the snow or something similar. It took a hell of a force to do that though. Funny thing is nothing internal is broken. Also, His dipstick is gone for the chaincase also so that disappeared sometime during this entire ordeal also.
I may be mistaken, but isn't the chaincase cover Magnesium??? I think the word Magnesium is cast into the cover itself. Best find out for sure before you put the welder to it.

Ahh could be... I didn't think about that I will have to send the word over thanks for pointing that out.
