2005 RS Vector ER. I have tried Woody's Dooleys (Push in corners, no darting though, has drag) Shims make the sled steer way too hard. Stud Boy Duece bars steer too hard also, but have no drag and no darting. I' am now going to try the 6" Shaper bars and see what those do. I have stock skis. Any comments? I will also post the results!

I have had very good luck with the Duece bars and as you say, no darting and no drag. But. I found them very easy to steer. Great wear as opposed to Yamahas' skegs. I got 500 miles out of Yamahas' skegs with damage to the skis. I have 2,000 miles on the Duece bars with little wear. Shaper bars should be a good choice too.

I have the shaper bars (8" or 9" can't recall) and I find they work great, far better cornering than the Dooley's which I also tried.
I did have some darting with the shaper bars, ski shims fixed that up.

I use the Bergstrom Advantage 3 with 8 inch carbides and like them a lot. I have no darting problem and they corner great. They came with shims but I never used them
i put the shims in and bolted on a set of 6" shaper bars, darting all but gone...the steering was heavier however so i loosened up my limiter strap all the way and now it still corners like its on rails but the steering is much lighter...i might take the shims out but turn the rubber around and see if it makes any difference...

I don't know how you do this in the Mono SHock skids, but the best way I've found to lighten up the front ski pressure is to increase the front track shock spring pressure.
I have an M10 in my Vector and have increased the pressure in 1/2" increments two times from the recommended setting. BIG difference and the handling is really realy good now!
I have 6" Doolies.....no darting at all (never had any with Doolies) and as to push.....I can't feel any. Skis are shimmed.

letting the limiter strap out all the way will put downward pressure on the front of the track and in doing so lifts the front of the sled taking pressure off of the ski's. on a two shock sled increasing preload on the front shock will get the same results.

But letting out the limiter strap will let the front end lift more when you accelerate. I for one don't want that...

It has the same effect as shimming. This trick works great on many makes and models, not just Yamahas. I haven't tried turning the rubber around on mine, since I am already using shims. But I have seen it work on other sleds.
turning the rubber on a steel spindled yamaha wont work, it is too much rear bias.
those are great carbides. install them, balance the ski on a piece of keyway or other small piece of steel just under the center bolt. have someone set on the sled. look under the ski. you want to add enough shim to the rear of the rubber so the carbide will be even or a little tipped down in the back.
responsive steering needs even balancing,
straight line no effort steering needs rear bias.
too much rear bias will cause the sled to turn hard

I had the same problem on my Nytro- went w/Slydog skis,bergstrom triples and shims. Just got back from riding and the sled steers like a car. No darting, pulling or walking. Goes where you point it.
just recieved a set of curve xs skis, using 6in shaper bars, may be able to try them tonight if it ever stops snowing in maine.
