I am looking to extend my Apex to 136". I found a used fully clipped Intense 1.5" lug track locally for $330 cdn. It seems to be in good shape (<1000 miles on the track).

I would like to enhance the deep snow capibilities of the Apex, but on occasion we get freezing rain making the trails pretty icey so I would like to stud. We also run late in the year on hard pack/crusty snow, but I have installed ice scappers which seem to keep the hyfax well lubricated.

I really want a cobra, but they are hard to come by. Do you think shaving this track to 1.35" and studding is practical? Perhaps I could leave some lugs unshaved that are not near studs. I'll only be studding the center so maybe I could leave the outside lugs at 1.5"

Advise would be much appreciated - but I think I'm reaching on this on and it seems like a lot of money to experiment with.

Anyone have some input ont his? What about putting lug studs in?

You should cut all lugs or none the track can be come unbalanced and that would not be good. Running a 1.5" track should be fine. I cut all my tracks from 2" to 1.5".

Does anyone have experience with the lug stud that you scew in? I was thinking about shaving the track down to 1.35" lug height to match the profile of a cobra.

I was told, when I inquired about them, by a snowmobile repair shop that he has scene damage more than once to the front heat exchanger when one come out...

Run 1.450 studs without shaving the track and see how it does for traction, if its not enough then cut it down. I have heard allot of people say that the 1.450 stud will still penetrate with a 1.5 track (think flexing lugs). If your just looking for the occasional stopping and starting on ice and don't want to lake race the thing then try that first, you dont have anything to lose.

Here is a pic of a 1.45 stud next to my intence track, the problem is when you put a 1.5 lug track on a apex you have to remove the tunnel protectors.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like I could damage the tunnel givin that the tunnel protectors need to be removed. I just got back from the dealer and they are having a sale on the nytro xtx. Maybe I should skip the hassle and just buy a nytro.

track

I put the 1.5 track on my apex and it is close to the tunnel protectors but not touching....Now my track is not an intense but the paddle track that came on a ski doo summit
