I'm checking the valves and potentially shimming then on my dad's '16 vector. I'm at the point where the only thing between me and the valve cover is the EPS motor and steering subframe. Just unbolting the EPS motor doesn't look like it would give me enough room as there is a crossbar of the steering subframe right above it. I can't figure out any other way other than take the whole steering subframe off, which looks like a crap load more work. Before I fully commit am I missing something?

Steering subframe has to at least be propped up higher to get enough clearance.

Yep.. like what Srx spec said... have one apart right now and you are close to me... cool.....

Should I support the belly of the sled when I loosen that subframe? It looks like that subframe is in compression as the forces from the skis and tunnel push up. Or am I overthinking that?

No reason to support it. The chassis itself is strong enough.

So did the shim job fix you dad's problem? I also have a 2016 vector xtx that has trouble holding an idle first thing in the morning. Once warm and run it's fine all day. I also live in NH up north. I have gotten postings of shims job needed when the engine runs bad when warm. Or they usually don't need them. But others stated it fixed their idle issue on this year machine of a new motor from Yamaha
