SHOOT-OUT Results. APEX WINS< Loweset ET.

I think there is more to the range of torque than most peope are giving credit to... I've ridden both, and own a GT, but when riding my gut tells me the GT is faster..... Not quite as snappy, but more broad and strong from idle to WFO...

Anyway.... Glad to have sold my 800X for a new GT... Am very Happy!!!

Studs are ran on every sled even in the box stock runs. There is no way they would have the time to stud a track for the dealer prep runs if they didn't have them in on the stock runs. If it is still being run the same as when I had been in it the stud manufacturer that is sponsoring the event supplies the studs for everyone.

OK, So... if I understand your logic, if you were to put an 1 1/4 inch track on the Mach and reduce the hp by about 10 or 15hp it would have beat the Apex???

I was merely replying to the poster above me, who seemed to be in disbelief that the Mach could be that much faster than the Apex, and was going to put money on the fact that skidoo had somehow "cheated".
A higheer horsepower, lighter weight sled with gobs more torque is going to obviously be much faster than its competition. No cheating required.
No I don't own a Mach, and probably never will. Just stating the obvious...

I know that the Yamaha Apex had the quickest ET and I must say "HATS OFF TO YAMAHA"
I would never have dreamed that a 4 stroke would be able to compete with a similar displacement 2-Stroke, LET ALONE BEAT IT!!!!!??????

I am truly amazed! :4STroke: :yam:

I was curious so I averaged the 2 runs from all of the sleds and this is how that stacks up:

Arctic ZR 900: 12.54 @ 93.66 MPH
Polaris Fusion: 12.63 @ 93.78 MPH
Doo Z 1000: 12.72 @ 95.75 MPH
Yamha APEX: 12.54 @ 93.39 MPH

FYI - my brother was out riding with an 05 ZR900. Now, it's not fair because the apex is really clutched but...the ZR is not even close. Like 4 sleds out of the hole then just drove away.

Thats good to know... my buddy just bought a 05 ZR900 with the 1 inch track!

Well I guess you didn't hear that doo did get caught cheating at the shootout dyno session last week. Yes I am in disbelief that they picked up a half second and 9 mph with clutching only, thats obvious to me. What makes you think that these same people that went to the trouble to have the cheater box made up for the shootout (and got caught at the dyno session) didn't put it in for the dealer setup run? That was their intention right from the start! Not speculating here, just stating fact.

It would not surprise me if Doo slipped in the cheater box during the dealer runs. The exciting this is that the Apex on the same day in the same conditions is one of if not the fastest sled in 1/4 mile and its a 4-stroke the ZR beats it but is old school does not have rider forward, no electric start, no where near the gas mileage, it's not a 4-stroke, and The Yamaha was not even broken in YET! Great Job Yamaha

FYI:

Dealer prep which set quickest time was all stock components. Several aftermarket kits were tested (I won't be mentioning which ones), but none were able to improve over stock at this event and those conditions. Minor changes to stock were to lighten up the rivets to compensate for running 192 studs, ran 10,500.

Out of the box time was no changes, shift rpm was 10,100, which is typical when you add studs to a stock Apex, weights need to be lightened up a bit.

Just information

So Viper34...... I have 55 miles on my sled as of yesterday. I did a couple of high speed runs 1500 ft and I have no studs, but I can only pull 9800-9900 on the tach. When will it start to get to 10,500? Is this normal.....

loosen up

it,s normal. these engines are so tight at the beginning. you will know when it,s starting to loosen a little when the engine braking lets up when you back off the throttle. just for your info i owned a 03 and 05. when it really starts to loosen up 1000 to 1500 miles

If I had to guess I would say the loose snow conditions were not good for aggressive after market clutching. If i read correctly the Mach Z had a very poor 60 foot time which I bet was caused by agressive clutching. The Stock clutching is very good this year but still not as good as the after Market stuff.

Any Thoughts Brad?
