Should I get the APEX ER, RTX or GT?

I am just about ready to spring order a 2007 Apex ER. I notice that hardly anyone even talks about this model in this forum. I only trail ride and very seldom go off into the rough stuff. Although some of the trails are very rough on occasion as you all know. I just am not sure I need to spend the extra $$$ money on the robust shock/suspension system which is primarily the only difference in the models. Are there any other noticeable differences I am missing? Do any of you have any advice for me?

Get the RTX... i know if i were going to buy a 07.. that would be the sled to have..

Get rid of the hand guards and get a mid height windshield and your all set..

all these sleds do great on the trail.. off the trail and in the rough stuff

welterracer, Thanks for the quick reply. Can you tell me why you would get the RTX if you were me? I notice you have the GT with even more fine tuning ability related to the shock/suspension. You would opt for the 07 RTX over an 07 GT? I guess it would be great if you expanded on why to help me make up my mind. Thanks!

I do love the GYTR front shocks on my GT.. but like anything.. once you have them set you dont touch them ever again..

The RTX has the 06 NYTRO rear skid.. that alot of guys have raved about.. absolutely eats bumps and mogals..

That and i like the color scyme..

GT is alot more expensive and not really worth the price and i think the new graphics are ugly..

Standar ER will be a great sled too.. but will need larger rear spring to keep from bottoming! and doesnt come in the cool colors.. LOL

If your looking for a plush ride, go with the GT. The RTX will give you a very firm ride and you will feel every little bump. Great bump sled for hammering the moguls, but not a daily high miler sled. Just my 2 cents!

Three replies and 3 different answers; I recommend the Apex ER.

If you're not going to work the suspension too hard and want a plush ride I'd recommend the Apex ER.

It's a very good sled with a very good ride but the suspension is still too weak for a very aggressive rider.

If you're an extremely high mileage rider that takes it fairly easy you will probably still have suspension problems eventually with the monoshock.

I would budget/plan for a front pivot arm every 6000-10000 miles if you take it easy and both pivot arms and slide rails every 4000-5000 miles if you are a moderately aggressive rider.

If you're more aggressive than that (1/2 as hard on your sled than the Yamaha ads show) I would recommend paying the extra for the RTX.

Personally if I buy a new Yamaha for next season it will be an RTX with reverse, a tall windshield, 144 studs, and possibly an 05 chaincase and 04 idler wheels (I'm looking for maximum durability).

This past season the GT had durability problems with the rear shock. I'd pass on the GT until it's been proven.

Can't answer the benefits of the other models. I have the ER and absolutely love it. Had an M-10 on previous sled. The mono shock beats it hands down for ride and handling. Many complain of bottoming. I weigh 200+ dressed to ride and have done nothing to the suspension as set by my dealer. The remote is set at 4 clicks up from maximum soft. I'm not a ditch banger, strictly trail rider, but ride aggressively and have no problem bottoming out. My hand warmers work too. Must have been a mid-week sled. The mid height windshield that comes with the ER is sufficient, at least down to 0* F. However waiting to see what next season brings. The mid height windshield you can order thru your dealer is taller than the mid height that comes on the ER. The tall windshields are a joke and an accident waiting to happen. For my usage it doesn't get any better than the ER.

If I were do it again, I would get the ER. In faat, I would try to find an 06, because the only model they are changing is the RTX.

I am in the process of ordering a Apex er and was going to order the tall windshield ( not the extra tall). Why to you say an accident waiting to happen????????

I have the GT and love it. Do you get 1500 $ more sled? 8) That is up to you. The ER is a great sled, I think the mono is a great trail suspension. :ORC

You can not go wrong :D with any of these. If I had not found a great deal on a slightly used GT I would have gone ER or Attack. But now that I have the GT I am thrilled. :yam: :4STroke:

The way you describe what you want to do with your next purchase, it sounds to me like the Apex ER would do more than meet your requirements. I have one and I wouldn't spend the extra money on shocks unless you are going to beat the sled up in the rough stuff.

Myself and three others in our group bought the ER's. We all think they are great. As someone already stated once you have the front shocks set right for you, when would you change them? As far as the rear suspension is concerned the dial change is simple enough and is changed very little. You can't go wrong with any of them however. I almost bought the GT but am glad I didn't when I see they had some issues with the shocks and wiring.
