If I was able to choose among the 06 sleds again I would buy an RTX this time. Fot 07 I'd buy a red ER. On my GT I set the electric shock all the way to firm and leave it there and haven't touched any clickers in 500 miles.

I am in the process of ordering a Apex er and was going to order the tall windshield ( not the extra tall). Why to you say an accident waiting to happen????????[/quote
Both the tall and extra tall have braces that come from the shield down to the cowling to keep the windshield from folding down above 40 mph. First they are butt ugly, second incase of an accident I would be concerned about the braces doing a spearing job on the rider. I had ordered the extra tall, on back order at that time, my dealer called me to inform me I'd better come take a look at what changes were required to use the tall and extra tall. Cancelled the order on the spot. See if your dealer will swap out the mid height that comes on the sled for the replacement mid height. My plan is for the replacement next season, although the standard seems to work fine. I'm waiting to see if Sport Tech offers the windshield next fall. They make the OEM shields for Yamaha.

I just went through the same decision making process. I ended up ordering the black 07 ER. I am still struggling with the concern about the mono durability, but the group I ride with has a couple that have been pounded hard and we see no concerns at all at the end of the year. I am a bit concerned about the new RTX not being as plush, so I am going to stick with the mono. I also am not a fan of the yellow! Just my 2 cents.

Last year the only difference in the sleds was the shock choice, this year the RTX is an entirely different sled for the true trail pounder. Last year I would think colour had as much to do with the selection of the RTX as the shock package.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Thanks for the heads up.

I bought an ER mid Feb. I put 1250 miles on it by mid Mar. Absolutely love it. Only issue is a grease fitting. I believe this model, shock wise, would satisfy 90% of riders. I'm 165#'s, ride harder than average and it will bottom now and then. Not as bad as everyone makes it sound. My .02
