I get 140miles with my 2 last 2strokes on a tank

Why not get that with a 4stroke

But the point is Yamaha SHOULD ALSO keep the smaller tank on certain models

NO one is suggesting get rid of the small tank BUT rather have a similar model with bigger tank

How big is your tank on your ZR 600?? You can go 140 miles??? Miles or kilometers? I have an '02 600 EFI, and I have never made it over 100 miles on a tank!!

**EDIT** - Freezer, your tank is almost twice as big as the FX Nytro tank!!
YES I HAVE a 13gal tank

And YES I KNOW its almost twice the size

Point is I can ride for 140miles before fill up

this has NOTHING to do with MPG but rather RANGE

When out and my odo reads 100miles I know I can rid further before worrying about filling up

I Odometer all my tank of gas ;)!

Freezer, I understand!! From the get-go this sled isn't for everyone! You need to weigh out the pros and cons! If range is that big of an issue, than buy a Z1. 13.5 U.S. gallon tank will take you almost 100 miles farther than your current ZR!!! Just a thought! The Nightfires look nice!!

:ORC The Jag is UGLY IMO

Like the ST660 looks better

Not trying to change this into a Cat-bashing thread, but boy, I couldn't agree with you more.....

The T660 looks a hell of alot better!! Speaking of which, Freezer, your HCS avatar........ Do you have a T660 also??

nope

I like the pic as it sorta looks like me on the ST660

I have a Green and yellow ZR with yellow SnoX helmet

If you think that 7.4 gallon is small for trail riding imagine for the people buying the MTX and riding in powder all day long!

Riding in powder needs more gas!!!

And right now, I don't have a solution to carry extra gas on the MTX and it's holding me to snowcheck one! :o|

I saw a rear rack for the MTX on the canadian yamaha web site but no gas can that will fit and be safe because of the rear exhaust!

9 gallons would have been better!

When I was at the show in Batavia on Monday there were some rumors going around that some US Yamaha engineer was going to Japan this week and one of his top requests was going to be a larger tank on the Nytro for this season. My dealer confirmed this tonight and said that there is a chance that a 8 1/2-9 gallon tank could possibly be in the works. I personally think it will be too late for this year as I'm sure these sleds will be going to production shortly but we can always hope.

Heres a quote from Maximumsled.com

"As for the motor, you won't find a smoother powerplant in this horsepower class (about 138) and in one of our rides, while the competition took 5 gallons of fuel, the FX Nytro took 2.8 gallons in the same distance and 87 octane at that. We are hearing unofficially that the FX Nytro is getting between 15 and 20 mpg depending upon how you ride. That is incredible!"

I've not read through the whole thread but I snowchecked a Nytro and would like a bigger tank. My Vector gets 14-16 for regular riding, breaking trail, climbing in the mountains and just playing. At race speed I get 13. A Nytro, assuming that it gets the same as a 13 MPG at race speed as a Vector due to its HP increase is only going to give me a range of 96.2 miles. That will not offer me any advantage over injected 2-stroke sleds. I hope they come out with an enduro tank or something to that effect!

10 gal at least on all them even the rtx i hat the 7 gal tank if you dont want/need the extra 20 pounds then dont fill it all the way but what happens when u wanna go trail ridding.

You guys slay me. You must be bored or something. Why would you sit around and complain about a small gas tank when nobody yet knows what the mileage is. Without that part of the equation you can't come to a conclusion. As Auskins noted above, the only real measure of mileage (compared to the competition -- it did not give the mileage) anyone has done or seen says the Nytro used only 56% of the gas the competition used. That means the competion would need almost twice the size of tank to go the same distance (1.8 times to be exact). That equates to over a 13 gallon tank to go the same distance. I firmly believe when the Nytro comes out next year virtually nobody will be disappointed in the range.

Hey, I might be wrong, but until they are out there next year everyone is guessing and making statements without knowing. I am guessing that the mileage will be close to the Vector mileage there won't be too many disappointed. :ORC

compare to what sled a Polaris or cat get #*$&@ mpg it would of have to be compare to a 600sdi witch get greet gas mpg 17-19 mpg

if the nytro at high speed on and off the gas plus riding in 8-10 in of fresh snow and still get 14mpg a 7.4 gal tank is not a nought for us canada riders

we whould have to get 18-20 mpg all day long that a 130-150 miles
14 mpg is is 103 not good you will be walking
