I am not sure if this is the appropriate place for this question, but I am posting it here because I own a 2007 Apex Mtn.

I want to find out where everyone else is mounting their shovels?

In my pack :) But I have thought about getting a second shovel to mount to the sled. On a side note....You ever seen a sled jack? They kickass for getting out a buried Apex when no one else can get to you to help. One people see I have it and see how slick it is all I hear the rest of the trip is.....Bring the jack over! LOL Eric

I think in your pack is a good place....if you get separated from your sled and need it, at least you won't have to dig your buddy out with your hands after the avalanche....but not all people rid the mountians. just my $0.02

How does the Snow Jack facilitate getting your sled unstuck.

This special Jack is how it is facilitated....check out www.highliftjack.com...They are worth EVERY RED CENT SPENT !!!!!! the price includes all mounting brackets, foot plate, keeper pins, straps, straps with hooks... ...the whole enchilada.......and NO...when it's mounted you don't even know it's there... ;)!

Basicly you lift the rear end of the sled up out of the hole, and push it over onto fresh snow, repeat this process untill you can either get it pointed down hill...or make the sled on a more level plane, put the jack back in it's mounting brackets and hit the throttle......your off for more steep and deep..... :yam:

shovel

I also have a 07 apex mtn.I put it in my back pack aslo.I'm going to look into getting a jack also.

If you ride in the mountains...always carry your shovel in your pack. If there is a slide and your sled gets burried so does your shovel. Not only making it hard to dig out your sled also makes it hard to save your buddies life. Dakine makes a great line of backcountry packs that are made to carry shovels, probes and lunch. http://www.dakine.com

I carry a shovel and probe in my pack, and also have a shovel and probe on the sled in case somone needs to find me! Will post a pic of the shovel mount.

Not a great picture, but I slotted the bottom of the exhuast trim for the blade of the shovel to slid into. The handle is held by a stud that slips into a hole in the handle with a piece of velcro over. It rests on a little rubber bumper.

This is the aluminum shovel I usually carry in my pack - very easy to quickly set up.

I've got an older snow claw that I keep in the Snow bunje bag on the sled - it takes up less space and is just there as a backup, I'm not a big fan of the design. You can move powder fast, but hardpack (avy snow) is tougher to move with the snow claw. Thats why I carry both.

I don't sled in avalanche areas. I keep the handle under the hood, clipped to the belt guard and the blade clevis-pinned to the rear flap along with the base of my high-lift jack.

Thanks for everyone that has replied. I guess I better buy a pack. I will also look into the jack.
