2017 SideWinder LTX-LE
Well I am spring ordering a Skidoo Backcountry X 850 because that suits my group's riding style better now. Daytrip logging roads and boondocking and campfire lunch instead of 1000 mile saddlebag looping.

In all honesty the Winder has been great to me. Since I got the 5 year warranty its been serviced every year by my dealer whom I trust. Havent measured in years because I never had a problem but my offset is 62.5. Blew only my 2nd belt on my last ride this season after about 1600 miles and 3 hard days of off trailing and lake pulls capped by towing a melted down Apex for some 15 miles. Still running factory roll over plumbing , had my tensioner welded preventatively and upper gear bushing replaced prior to this season.

Yeah, I lost a turbo bolt, had to have dealer reseal oil tank, and I’m on my 2nd reverse actuator. Honestly I’ve worked more on my Apexes. Mind you I loved my spring order 06 Apex GT but sadly she sank like rock to the bottom of Deep Creek Lake. Still own my 07 Attak GT but she’ll be for sale.

The Winder is superior to the Apex in every way. Power, ride, seating position, gas milage, storage and my luggage won’t catch on fire. I can’t yet bring myself to consider selling the Winder its just been that good.

Tuned from begining of season 2. Stock muffler tunes, so quiet. Better mileage and more power than needed almost ever. This year I frog-skinned the Cat nose grille and never had a noseberg or overheating. I may be wrong but I’m pretty sure the noseberg contributed to my overheating.

Been to 118 once with the Ice Cobra. Usually never crack 110 on trail ride trip computer. Don’t need to. I think if continue to keep it I want to gear it down for better low end grunt. Been running just the transfer bar with silicone heater hose to protect it but would like a bit more ski lift. Considered extending to 146 but put that off for now. I only weigh 180 but the Stingray spring or heavier Cat spring is a must in my view. EPS Winder GTs are super appealing and if we were retiring now I would buy the touring 2up.

Didn’t do a lot of miles this year but it was a great fun season with 2 trips west and 1 trip to Maine.

Couple of weeks ago, I got to visit my mistress for the 1st time since 2021. I was in Maine in 2022 when I picked up my Backcountry and the Winder was holed up in storage with the access door iced in. Didn't even see her. We have been mountain riding out west 21,22,23, and 24 where I rented mountain 2-strokes. Spent the 1st day on the Backcountry finishing break-in. The next day I installed the new battery I brought with me and she fired right up and ran flawless for 300 miles over the next 2 days before the weather went to #*$&@. Trail riding to trail riding - Sidewinder all day long. The only thing I'll say is trails are rarely enough room to hold it to the bar even for a moment much less any longer.
