Simmons Flex Ski Questions

I am looking to upgrade the skis on my 2007 Attak and considering the Simmons Flex Ski. A couple of questions: Is there a noticeable improvement over the stock skis, how much wider are they, and can other replacement carbides fit or are you stuck with finding the Simmons carbides.

Put them on my 07 er and it was like power steering.No darting.They are a total of 2inches wider than the stock skies.I used the carbides from simmons they wear like steel.Found my carbides from a supplier in NH.Call them up and they were there in 2 days.I use 6inch inside and 4 outside.Works great.

simmons offer a unique "feel"...
since the carbide is on the outboard edges...it will make the sled feel like it has a wide kit of sorts...
also...the ski is more laid back (understeer) compared to others...but it is very predictable.
if you later decided you wanted a more aggressive feel (at the cost of turning heaviness)you can run shaper bars...

I have used Simmons since2003 on Vipers, SRX, RX-1 & an Attak. Worked great on all but the Attak. Steer way harder than Slydogs. We did a 100 mile test last year with 2 sleds, one with Simmons and one with Slydog, both guys switching sleds back & forth. In the end, both agreed that there was too much weight on the skis for the Simmons. Not saying that you couldn't adjust some of that off, but would probably loose corning then. I even prefer dually carbides on stock skis over the Simmons on an Attak. Great skis just not on Apex / Attak. Just my 2 cents worth.

I found the simmons steering effort was too high for me. Slydogs worked great with Bergstrom triplepoint runners.

FYI...one of the mistakes some guys are making is bolting on a set with the proaction sled mounts to the apex....there is a specific mount for the fourstrokes and it provides much less turning effort...that being said...I'm sure they will still have more effort than a slydog...for the slydogs are pretty flat on the bottom...I have a brand new set of sdogs I've yet to try...I guess I love my simmons

I love the simmons I have on my APex. They are hard steering, however.

I put a set on my warrior. Much better than stock but will still dart some if you cross a simmons or precision ski track. Almost no push even with the 136 track.

They are noticeably more difficult to turn. We slight power on its manageable. On power off downhill turns they can be a handful.

I like them but as always there are trade-offs

Has anyone tried the 2nd generation simmons on 121 or attack? Are they the same as the first generation just being wider?

Gen 2 Simmons

I've has Simmons on my last 4 sleds. They do require more steering effort but track & float way better than stock.

The stock skis on my '07 Attack are awful. Too narrow to float, track just awful, and have a too steep angle of attack in my opinion. In addition, I wore out the original carbides in 600 miles!

Simmons float well in the powder and the lower angle of attack throw less snow at you and help keep the sled flatter. You just have to be careful not to go under, rather than over some low stuff in the trails.

They also come with two sets of mounting holes. One for reduced steering effort and one that will lessen the tracking more but steer harder. Your choice.

Mr. Simmons tried to talk me into Gen2. If I lived out West and rode in powder all the time, I'd do it. However, they are 10 inches wide and would be a problem in a side by side trailer or meeting another sled on a narrow trail. The Gen1 are 6 inches wide.

Just my opinion.

Any recomendations on replacement carbides? Bergstrom no longer offers them for the simmons

if you want to rail...with more steering effort...get shaper bars....otherwise bottomline make's the standards

Skis

Simmons all the way...A must IMO. As far steering effort goes my wife has them on her attak with no complaints of being to hard to turn. And that's with front straps pulled all the way up. Actually she really wasn't thrilled with her new attak until after the simmons were put on. Hope this helps.
