Use the back hole for sure. This will take a little pressure of the front of the skis. The simmons tend to wear the carbides in the front so mounting in the back hole and shimming the skis is the way to go. I love them on my Apex.

I mounted mine to the FRONT hole on my '08 LTX GT & BACK hole on my 40th RTX Nytro.
Simmons included instructions w/ the purchase of their skiis and states that the nose heavy 4-stroke machines (such as the Attak or Apex) should have skiis mounted in the FRONT hole.
I would advise to mount the skiis to the FRONT hole and take the sled for a ride. Avoid shimming these skiis.
I Put 175 miles on this weekend in Cadillac, MI and the machine was flawless w/ these skiis on. Just about threw the USI Triple Threats in the garbage.

Have you looked at your carbides? Simmons wear really heavy in the front. Thats why most on TY run the rear hole and shims.
I do agree with you about the skis working great. I also much prefer them to USI.

All skiis I have ever used on my Yamaha's wear heavily in the front (stock, USI, Simmons, C&A, etc.). Can't tell the difference in one carbide wearing more than the other.
Running the front hole on the LTX GT made the sled more stable and kept the skiis planted in the corners.

2 sets of mounting holes? When did they change that?
Just recently I think LB. My simmons I bought in 06 had the same mount as yours but I just got a new set last week and the mounts now have two holes. When compared to the original mounts it looks like the rear hole is a little behind and the front hole would be a little ahead of the mounting point on the original mounts

Mount them in the back holes. Darting is gone & they bite just fine in a high speed corner. Front holes may bite a little more but it steers harder and darts more. Got my advise directly from Val Simmons.

I have gen II tried both holes couldn't tell a difference so i moved them back to the front as manufactures directions. No darting in either spot

shims on simmons ski
what size shims are you putting in the gen 1 ski ? I was thinking about 1/8" under back. What has been best
