Jumped off my rtx with pilots, onto another rtx with simmons....HUGE difference in heaviness.....Pilots are very light feeling...Simmons are nice for certain conditions but Pilots IMO are FAR FAR better overall.
I don't see how you can make that statement when you say you have never used them. Sounds like Dan can give a more accurate evaluation seeing that he has ridden on both skis with the same model sled in the same snow conditions.

Machzed..
you of all people know that suspension set up can make a sled feel heavier up front..
I've ran them for over a decade now and a heavy feel or steer wouldnt be how I describe them.

I don't think we have to argue about this topic. We can all agree that either of these skis are far better than the stockers. I've talked to Doo guys about the difference between the precisions and Pilots and most agree that the Pilots are better in lose snow and both skis are great at reducing darting. I rode a freinds Renegade last year with pilots up in Canada and thought it handled terrible and my 800 HO with precisions was perfect. I then rode another freinds Rev with Pilots and it handled great so I think that when it comes to the Rev setup makes a huge differnce. How much a diffeernce it will make on the Apex, I don't know. I wanted a ski that would prevent darting and I think the Simmons or Pilots will acheive this goal but the deciding factor for me was the cost. The pilots are a steal compared to any aftermarket ski and the carbides can be purchased over the counter at any Doo dealer.

hey guys...
Im not saying they are not amazing skis....I think simmons are probably about the best aftermarket ski out there.....and Im sure they will OUTLAST the Pilots in longevity.
Im just saying when i went from my seat to my buds RTX with simmons,i was shocked at how heavy it was to steer....
The Pilots IMO are the lightest feel ski out there ..and truly do perform...I like the feel of less carbide but still having good bite.
also, you need to take into consideration how simple they bolt up to the yammie...and how INexpensive they are compared to most other aftermarket skis.
at least we all can agree, the stock apex skis are very poor!....
merry xmas!

The topic of this post is Simmons vs. Pilots. The nature of this post is going to invite arguments due to the many different opinions. I just think (IMO) Dan can give a very unbiased evaluation having ridden to identical sleds, except for the skis, on the same snow conditions. If I was looking for an honest accurate performance evaluation on the two skis, which the author if this post is, I would value the opinion of someone who has experience with both skis and not an opinion from someone who hasn't. Again......if it was me!

When you're thinking about the "pilot" skis, you need to think about their history.
1) First, there was Simmons. Doo liked them so much that they copied them (poorly) "precision".
2) Simmons didn't like that so they took Doo to court and won. Doo was ordered to stop making "precision".
3) Rather than admitting to doing something ILLEGAL to make a buck, Doo decided to distract everyone from the court order by making a new ski that was just sufficiently different that it no longer infringed on patents "pilot".
Are "pilot" better? No. They just exist to confuse the weak-minded.

LazyBastard, have you ever run Pilots on your Apex? if so I can see how you can give an educated hands on opinion. Oh that’s right you don’t have an Apex. Case in point.....just another opinion with nothing to back it up.
