- 2016 RS Vector XTX 1.25 Lug wifes..2013 RS Vector LTX.. 2003 600 VMax Past Machines 3-2007 Attaks 1-2010 Vector LTX.. sorry no Stinkdoos or poo's cats.
I went for a 90 mile ride on my 2016 RS Vector XTX yesterday on hard pack trails with some tracks from machines. I thought the steerig was very violent. Throwing me around left to right. My first ride this season. I have been riding a 2010 Vectoor XTX with woody's duallys this season and have about 500 miles on different types of snow conditionss and was never violent like on the xtx.
Those dual keels must of been grabbing the tracks on the hard packed trails. I'm thinking twice the keels twice the grabbing. Pulling me left to right violently. I never had that in the 500 miles so far this season on the 2010 with woodys's duallys.
I'd like to try single keel with duallys. The easiest switch is a 2013 ski. But they are different then the 2010. Single keel but the carbide and keel is different I see. So why did yamaha changed the 2010 single keels? would I still get the single keel effect on the 2016 with 2013 ski's?

from what i remeber on my stock 11 xtx single keel skis, yamaha moved the mounting point on the ski so it did not need the ski shim mod. you would still get the same single keel effect putting them on your 16. i usually run 09 apex mountain skis with the ski shim as my local conditions tend to be mostly softer snow.

I took off skis from my 2010 vector ltx and put them on the 16 vector xtx today. I used the same rubbers that the 16 came with . The rubbers were different. Not sure why they are different.

they changed the spindle when they put eps on the sleds. if it has this style loopI took off skis from my 2010 vector ltx and put them on the 16 vector xtx today. I used the same rubbers that the 16 came with . The rubbers were different. Not sure why they are different.
you will most likely have to add a shim under the back of the rubber for them to track better. it is called the ski shim mod in the tec pages.

I'll check out the shim info. I have these skis to try on my 2016 for now. They look the same I believe as your pick right?

yup, those are 2nd gen plastic yamaha skis. just from your picture, it needs the shim as the ski tips are lower than the spindle bolt. i tend to use a chunk of mud flap (where it secures to the truck) under the rear of the ski rubber on mine. when the tips are up, it tracks better in the trails and is not as prone to following others ski ruts.

I put on a pair from my 2010 vector and rode today in all conditions. They have Woody's Doolys on them. They did a grate job. With no shims but I'll try the shims as well. And saw the article on doing the shims.
I ordered a pair of used ones from Travis Hisham said they had with only 135 miles on them. Waiting for him to ship etc. Put the Tuners in storage I guess.

i loved the tuners on a hard packed trail when i helped brake in agman's 18 apex xtx back in 18. when i got my 16 xtx in 2019, one pass across a meadow with no crust, i could not steer anything sharp or sudden. threw on my favorite single keel ski for my area and had no trouble since. threw my tuners onto a 97 sx700 and loved them on it in same conditions.

I noticed the tuners didn't turn a tight circle on ice but the single keel with dooly's did. Dull tuner carbides? who knows

Not sure why the different style / make up rubber stoppers between 2010 and the 2016 and which ones to use on the 2016 with the 2010 ski's.

Easy answer, the spindles are different between the two sleds. All EPS Vec’s got the updated spindle/geometry just like the EPS Apes did. The newer front end geometry does corner appreciably flatter. Not sure why the different style / make up rubber stoppers between 2010 and the 2016 and which ones to use on the 2016 with the 2010 ski's.

So if I'm putting on ski's from the 2010 vector I should use the rubber from there as well? Also I don't want to cause wear issue using the wrong rubber and ski combo on my 2016 Vector.
On a side note. I noticed my 2010 hasa lot of ski lift but my 2016 doesn't. And you can feel the front end is lower on the 2013 wife has and the 2016.

You're changing the skis, not the spindles so the rubber stoppers would need to stay with the appropriate spindle.

if the 2010 still has stock sway bar, that would probably be the difference. the 2013 and 2016 both use the same sway bar and i know when they added the eps, they upped the sway bar to 11.75mm vs the 10mm that they used to come with. went through this with my 05 rx as it had terrible ski lift with stock bar but was great once i put the 13mm bar i got a deal on into the sled.

so a 13 mm sway bar would help the ski lift you said. I'm used to the ski lift. When I ran my Attaks I had an upgraded sway bar. Can't remember what mm it was. A question I have is what do you loose when upping the sway bar to 13 mm.?
First day on the Attak in 2007 I rolled it on it's side going around a corner from ski lift big time. I was use to the Vmax 600ER. Ha.
