Hey guys
my buddy blew a cylinder in his 2001 mxz 800. when the piston let go it broke up and destroyed his case. big holes in it. we have been looking for a motor but everything we find is way more money then he wants to spend. it is his spare sled.

we found a guy with a good bottom end. no head-cyls or pistons but everything else is there. he wants short money for it. the problem is that his bottom end is out of a 2002 mxz 800.

I looked into it some and know that the wrist pins and bearings are the same on those 2 years skidoo but the part #s for the pistons cyls and head are different.

Can he reuse his 2001 cylinders pistons and head on a 2002 bottom end???
please hepl we are getting real desperate and don't want someone else to buy this lower end if he can actually use it.

I don't think they really didn't anything different on the 800 twins until 04 when they came out with the 800 HO. I am pretty sure the HO was just a different head. I would check on DOOtalk just to be sure, but I am pretty sure what you are talking about will work.

I checked online microfiche and the head cylinders and pistons were different #s between 2001 and 2002
looks like the bore/piston of the 2001 cylinder was 81.85 and the bore/piston on the 2002 was 81.87

I think i will be ok too as long as i keep 2001 pistons in 2001 cylinders.

He tried dootalk and hcs a while back and got no answers on doo talk and a lot of stupid responses form hcs.
I know this is not the place for skidoo info but this is a knowledgable crowd and probably the most helpful site around.
people dont BS you like hcs, they actually help. it's kinda nice!!

Go to doo's website and e-mail their tech dept. I'm not sure it's still an option but I did so years back with a Mach Z question.

Just did one last year. It was a mixed bag of parts rebuild. We went through the same thing, couldnt find a complete motor and new parts out priced the sled value. We used a ski-doo shop to get our parts from. I'm racking my brain trying to remember the name of the place. I know he did/does advertise on snowest. Eric

seadooclinic is the guy........ Good parts and he will either fix everything you have or sell you new/used/repaired. Eric
