I recently bought a used '07 Phazer GT - 800 miles on it.
I just found that one of the upper guide wheels in the skid is cracked.
Are there any tricks to removing the skid? Or just pull the 4 bolts and drop it out?
Also - the upper guide wheels are spoked plastic wheels. They seem pretty fragile. I looked up the part number on the Yamaha Parts site. The number for 2007 & 2008 is 8GC-47530-01-00
I compared the 2009 and 2010 model part breakdown, and those wheels appear to have a solid disk (no spokes).
Part Number is 8GC-47530-10-00
If the 2009/2010 wheels are the same size just without spokes, I'd rather get those because they would be less prone to breakage.
Anybody know if the 2009/2010 upper guide wheels are interchangeable with the 2007/2008 wheels?

Yup, just pull the four bolts and the skid comes out. When I pull the skid I release the torsion springs and collapse the rear of the skid for extra clearance. Also, if you remove one of the front bolts without loosening (did I spell that right?) the bolt on the other side then the shaft will just spin so back them each out a little at a time.

What is the best way to release the springs?

the 09 wheels have holes and not spokes.
to release the springs fold the plastic part on the wheel forward grasp the spring and lift it over the wheel on the outside of the wheel.
