Hi all, I have a 2006 venture and I want to add the fourth wheel kit and check bearings in upper idler wheels. My question is do the springs need to have the tension taken off them, or can the bolts be removed and skid be dropped as one unit.

It's always a lot easier to remove the skid with the tension removed from the springs. You should be able to pull the tension from the springs by lifting them from their front mounts. Next take the front arm bolts out and the rear arm bolts out last. Reverse the procedure for installing the skid back in the sled.

Thanks for the reply, by front mounts do you mean where you adjust the cam block for riding two up on the outer part of the skid? It's always a lot easier to remove the skid with the tension removed from the springs. Your torsion springs on the skid have two mount points. The rear mount point is on the top of the skid (the arm of the skid that bolts to the tunnel with the short arm of the spring that allows changes to the tension via the cam block). This is not the part of the spring that you want to remove due to the short leverage (Unless you've got biceps like Popeye). The other point of the spring is mounted to the slide rail and is a lot longer which will enable you to get better leverage to remove the spring from the mount. Hopefully this will make sense.

Ok I know what your talking about now, never had to do this on a sled before, don't want any surprises with a spring letting go when I remove the bolts, again thanks!Your torsion springs on the skid have two mount points.
