Having both yamaha and skidoos since 1986 ive noticed one big differance between the 2, and thats service, While the yamaha were better built and didnt break as much when they did you usually had to pay, with skidoo they never question the warrenty stuff, with yamaha it seems its a fight every time, Yesterday i went to the new release of the yamahas with 3 guys who had all snowchecked the apex gt. yesterday they were all told that they will not get a apex gt and will have to settle for the rtx, These are older guys that have been riding other brands for over 30 years and have finally decided to switch over . One rides the edge chassis with the electric shocks and the other rides a cat with rider adjustable shocks and they wanted the gt becuase of the electric shocks, The dealer rep said no way becuase there dealer wasnt getting any and should not have taken there deposites, He said theres none left, After they left i heard the dealer rep say dealing with them was was worse then dealling with children and he couldnt care less if they were not going to buy yamahas now, Heres 3 new customers that are now not going yamaha because the hole thing has left a bad taste in there mouth, Can somebody tell me why they would not build more especially in an effort to sway other brand riders over? Theres a big differance in corperate headquarters, Its called caring for the customer. Guess ill keep the rx1 and buy the machz and hope the better shocks this year are worth it.

Yes. Stupidity.
It seems to me that in Canada, Yamaha thinks they're the Harley Davidson of the sled market........ except have you noticed that there are no more waiting lists for Harley bikes?

Tell your three buddies to call a Yamaha dealer in Buffalo. They can probably get the sleds, and they'll be $3000 cheaper too.

I wonder if they think customers are going to pay more than msrp to get ahold of one of these sleds in Canada?

My friends all ride Doos, and they are well taken care of. I know exactly what you mean. Yes, they definately aren't of the initial build quality of an RX, but any time they had a problem, the dealer took great care of them and bent over backwards to make them happy. I was shocked when a couple of them even had problems a while after the warranty was up, and they were still taken care of! My next sled will almost surely be a Doo, I just wish they would come out with something like the RX-1. I was going to get a Grand Touring 700 if I hadn't bought the RX, but I wanted the 4-stroke reliability. Now my friend's 700 which is the same age as my RX (and similar mileage) is still going strong, and my sled is at the dealer yet again, and I'm still fighting. The only Yamaha service person I have been happy dealing with was the service rep I met in person...but then Yamaha and my dealer took pursuasion to do what he had promised.

If Ski-Doo's service is that much better then it is no wonder Yamaha is where they are in the market share. It even takes forever to get parts and thats not right you should be able to have a part in a weeks time so you can enjoy what you bought and ride it.

My first reply

I have been a yamaha owner for about 2 months now and have been watching the posts on here for about 3 months. I havent chimed in yet as I am still the new guy but this post really gets me. I dont know where everyone having these problems with customer service are from, but I can tell you this....in NY, Bombardier IS BAR NONE THE WORST COMPANY TO DEAL WITH. I bought a yamaha without even sitting on one. I have an 04 600hoX Rev in the garage....Junk. These sleds have chronic problems across the boards and Doo will not acknowledge a single problem. If your dealer stinks (and there are a ton of them out there) The customer service WILL NOT STAND BEHIND YOU. A good friend has a 2003 SRX. This sled has had a few problems and the YES waranty has stood behind him 100% with no questions asked. This is why I own a Yamaha now. If you think the grass is greener at the other side, go spend a few hrs on dootalk. There are thousands of posts with every problem in the book, and 95% of these people are screwed with backordered parts, long waits, and ruined seasons with brand new sleds that are in the shop with catrastrophic failures. A brand new sled with 1500 miles needing a rebuild....that is common. Who spends around 10g on a sled and wants to put up with that. I will say this....all makers have their problems, but at least Yamaha (and cat) own up and take care of them. Buy yourself a doo and see what problems you have. Trust someone who has been there, my 2005 rx1 is 10 times the sled my rev was.

It depends on the dealer in most cases, there are both good and bad.

As far as the GT goes, there must be a smaller alotment for the Canadian market. My dealer called me today to make sure I still wanted an Attak and I said yes but my second choice was the GT but I probably wouldn't be able to get one with all I've read on here. He said "let me make a call and I'll call you back". He called back about 15 minutes later and said I could get one if I wanted. He called his rep and he confirmed it. I don't undersatnd what's going on. Oh yeah, I stuck with the superior sled anyways, a Blue Attak 8)

I hear ya nutswithtwins and agree 1000%. The last Yamaha show I went to I looked over an Attak really good with an 05 REV owner who was needing his second engine this year (sled was in the shop awaiting an engine). Needless to say he had enough and was ordering an Attak.

I should have clearified that the Doos that are so reliable are all pre-Rev platforms. One friend bought a 600 SDI at the beginning of the season and went through a bunch of belts the second half of the season. He found out his tunnel was bent, and he hadn't even been in a crash! I will never, ever own a Rev, so I hope Doo comes out with something else for us taller guys who are interested in comfort. I also won't ever own a Cat Firecat style sled. I tried one and it felt like it had 20,000 miles on it and was ready to fall apart (rattles, vibes, etc.) and it was almost brand new. If Doo doesn't come out with a good performance 4 stroke, I'll have to live with a Cat 660T. I love my RX-1, but between the problems its had and Yamaha's customer service, I won't buy another.

Try a new dealer nhrxrider :ORC

As far as tall riders go, I'm 6'3" and the Attak seemed perfect.

It depends on the dealer . I have had very few warrenty claims but the ones I had were taken care of very well . Some of them were already off warrenty . I found the apex not that comfortable , but much better than the rev . I'm 6'5" and legs are long .

I had three dealers call me today to see if I was ordering the GT. They hadn't heard back from me thats why they called. There are GT's out there I guess.

Last year's dealer was so bad that I had the plastic reverse lever handle break during a cold spell while under warranty. No problem, it happens. The dealer ordered it 2 weeks before the warranty ran out and said it would be in within a week. 3 days after the warranty ran out I went in to see what was up and was told it had come in a week before. They handed me the handle and wouldn't install it because the warranty was now up! It was easy enough for me to install, but it was the point of it. And I was cussing up a storm about it when I was installing it outside in -10 temps. I wasn't too happy. I mentioned that to yamaha customer service, and was told I was lucky to have gotten the lever after the warranty expired! Definately not what I would expect for service on a $10,000 purchase.
