I like the simons only because I have used them. The only thing I didn't like was the ware out fast. This the reason I have gone to the 6.9 pilot skis.

I've of taken quite a liking to C&A's. I'm planning to get the XT's in white sometime b4 winter. For serious off trail the MTX's possibly, but the XT and XTX versions of the skis from C&A seem to offer as good of off trail performance as the MTX's, but also have awesome on trail performance.

If going with Simmons (which are awesome off trail) even the Gen 1's are really good. the concave shape makes them float awesome. That is what I have now. The Gen 3's look radical. The Gen 2's look they are only good for going really fast through really deep powder up a chute with a 162" behind you. Too wide to turn it would seem.

But on trail Simmons track really straight, don't dart and seem awesome. Until that is you have a few inches of slop on top of the trail. Then that awesome concave shape works against you and bites you in the arse and the skis "float" on top of the the slop and lose their bite, all unbeknownst to the rider...... So the moment you need them to bite the most they will fail you and push. That is the down fall of the any of the Simmons skis on the trail. It's right in their design. Thay make you confident in them in the corners and then fail you. But off trail it's not a concern, and their design makes them float really nicely and they behave very predictably and confidently otherwise.

And curiously, what about the Slydog's don't you like? You have the Powderhounds? I have the Slydog Powderhounds on my Mt Viper and they float eacelltely. I also shimmed them in the rear 3/8ths of an inch and put Bergstrom's Triple Points and ski savers on them and they perform quite nicely. Off trail is where Powderhounds really excell tho. they float and carve very effeiciently and confidentally. My Mt Viper will push in the corners at high speed, but that is because of the way I have it set up largely and I don't fault yhr Powderhounds.

My one big beef with Slydog skis (Simmons also) is they are a very soft plastic and they gauge and scratch pretty easy of you bang off objects (i.e., rocks, trees, stumps) they tend to show some wear. Just curious why you don't like Slydogs is all.

Haven't tried them yet. They came out late last winter but every mtn site toy go to everyone raves about the simmons gen111's ecspecially on the nytro's.

do the gen III's ride and stear well on trail to? (swelly) And the reason i dont want the slydogs anymore is becuase im SICK of lossing the rubbers all the time and having to buy new ones... and they also handle like junk in corners on trails... off trail there great... so idk what to buy

Like Super Sled, I have Sly Dog's too, and like their trail performance however, the reason might be in the carbides. I am running 7.5 inch shaper bars on my slydogs, and it absolutely rails on hard packed....no darting and no push in turns.

I haven't tried the Simmons G3's, so I can't comment on their performance, but IMHO the runners make a huge difference in trail performance on any ski, and its finding the right combo that works for you.

Not to hijack the thread, but does anyone out there get good trail performance on the Nytro with 4" of carbide on any ski? Personally, I can't see it, but I am very curious what others are running....

OTM

I have SlyDog Powder Hounds in the 8". I absolutely love them. They rail corners on the trail and float very well. I have 6" shaper bars on them. I am confused about the statement of losing the rubbers. I don't know how they could come out with the spindle squeezing them. I do not know anybody that has the Gen's so cannot comment on them. :4STroke:

I also have the Powderhounds and enjoy their floatness! ;)!

I second this, had the same experience.

I've also read that the Sly Dogs Powder skis are very flexy. Their race skis are built thicker than the trail versions and I think they are too flexible. Just grab the ski loop when tugging you sled out of a hole and you'll see what I mean.

Same here, however I am on the phazer.

I shimmed them like Super Sled mentioned and I had a really hard time getting them back on after since it was soo tight, can't see how the rubber would fall off. Maybe they gave you the wrong rubbers when you bought them? Out of curiosity how many times did you loose them?

Making sure they are set up with toe out correctly will also make a world of a difference when it comes to handling.

Before dropping $$ on another set of skis I would suggest checking the toe out of the ski along with checking if they may need to be shimmed.

This will help with the shim http://www.totallyamaha.com/snowmobiles ... r_Shim.htm

My once I put the slydogs and 6" shapers on my phazer it was scary riding at a higher speed on trails when it was a freshly groomed trail. Would bounce left to right and would be uneasy in a corner. Spent some time getting the shim and toe out right and it was a night and day difference.

well the rubbers are coming out and they are very tightin there thats why im confused how it happens... and i am running 6" shapers and the toe is correct.... im not sticking with the slydogs and i will be buying something different... and i am leaning towards the C&A'S becuase i or my friends have never had a problem with them and nobody around by me runs the simmons.

Have anyone tryed a set of C&A MTX?
