Hey guys,
I don't know if this topic has been worn or not but I am new to yamaha and need to know.
My new 08 MTX had the slides wear at 470 miles right to the wear line at the front of the skid then stop. I was thinking of changing the them but left them on. I now have 1100 miles on and seem to be the same. Do these sleds have this issue with the quick wear of the slides at the front of the skid, or was it just the conditions at the time.
Would a marginal snow wheel kit help. I was also wondering if tightening the limiters would help. Mine are at factory and seem to be slack.
How about track tension? Mind seems to be tight.
Alot of questions but this seems to be the best place to get the answers.
Love the NYTRO

This is my best guess,
Running the stock set up in poor or hard snow conditions will wear the slidders to the point they need replacing. I expect that if you continue to ride with the existing sliders in poor conditions they will wear through.
I believe the wheel kit will help and have installed one on my MTX. I think I tightened my limiter strap before putting on the extra wheels and I don't believe I received a benefit from that action.
I've also tried ice scratchers. I had limited success at best and after breaking one off I didn't bother to replace them. I have heard of others claiming success with the scratchers.
I try to run my track on the loose side.
Good luck.

I wore my sliders out fast as well last year as well.
Loosen the track and put the extra wheel kit on, problem solved. 600 miles this year, no noticable wear.

one word,
hyperfax
expensive yes but, i dont have to worry about my sliders burning through to the rails on any trip i take.
i put a set on at the beginning of the year and they have zero (yes) zero wear in approx 1500 miles. and i have rode in some terrible icy conditions with no loose snow for lube after a warm up and flash freeze.
well worth the extra money to me.
also buy a set of scratchers , that will help with hyfax and engine temps. ski
