Ok here is the details on our gas tanks for 08 we have 32.2 litters = 8.5 US gallons 2007 38.3 litters = 10.1 US gallons so much for any range!!! To say that an 8.5 gallon tank is idiotically small is an understatement. I ride up in northern Ontario and most of my destinations require atleast 100 miles of range, you can't count on ideal conditions for optimum fuel milage. There is a loop that we do that is 117 miles with no fuel if Yamaha had only put a real 10 Canadain gallon tank = 45.5 litters = 12 US gallons I would have range to spare!

I hear ya! I do 100+ mile trips to with no gas to been seen anywhere. I was allmost cursing today when I barely cruzed in to my driveway with a empty tank

Tank Size

According to Snow Tech magazine's January/February issue, it states on page 44 that the tank size for the 2008 Apex has a capacity of 9.4 US gallons.

The Nytro has a 7.4 US gallon tank and the Phazer is at 7.05 US gallons.

Says the size change is due to the required EPA permeation requirements.

There are prolly alot of used 07-06 apex tanks kicking around from guy who install front mount turbos....

You'll never be able to use all 9.4 gallons though. 8.5 sounds about right for the useable amount of fuel.

All of these Yamaha sleds have rediculously small tanks. I think they did it as a method of reducing the ready to ride weight, but in the real world us riders need decent fuel range.

In 08 Yamaha got caught with the new EPA fuel tank requirements, forcing them to use much thicker tank walls and reducing the fuel capacity even further.

Even my 07 RTX can't make it between all fuel stops in northern quebec though. It is quite common for us to have to alter our plans in oder to stay closer to gas stations.

The guys I ride with who run REVs razz us Apex riders about this all the time.

I should find out in a few days if the new REV-XP 800R can also blow our fuel range away too. Some of my buddies have picked up Skidoo's optional accessory fuel tank also (just in case).

Unfortunately there is absolutely nothing available from Yamaha nor the aftermarket for the trail Apexs (121" or 136") to carry extra fuel.

I'm hoping that Yamaha's Apex replacement includes a huge tank so they can finally blow away Skidoo's fuel range. Enough of us have been complaining that maybe they'll listen.

Yes, and we all know that the numbers they print in the manual and adds are 100% acurate.

With that I noticed on Yamaha's site that the '08 Vector in the "Apex" chassis is some 12lbs. heavier than the previous RS Vector, figured it would be the other way.

I got all of my facts right from Yamaha Canada with an apology from them for the small tank. Trust me I have run out of fuel twice we only have 32.2 litters or 8.5 US gallons or 7.1 Canadian gallons. :die

Maybe it will make you feel better to know if you run out of gas with an 06 or 07 Apex it will usually only take 35 - 36.5 liters to fill it right to the rim of the tank.

They are all too small, not just the 08s.

With the guys I ride with, the Apex's are always the first to run out by far.

Friend of mine has a new XP 600.. it gets a consistent 20mpg and is carbed..

THATS NUTS...

Glad i dont ride in canada.. LOL

You can increase your milage by changing the clutching. If you load up some weight on the heel or run a primary spring with less pretension, sometimes a softer belt works, try to load the motor more at lower rpms, and should gain some milage.

Try to make drive more efficent by adding windage plates to the secondary, watchyour track tension,do the Elmer airbox mod. That helps lean it out bit, plus the added power.
I get the same milage as my pal does with his new rev xp 600,and better than his buddy's 800xp on every tank.
