First of all, i guess i should introduce myself, my names Christian, and i'm from boulder, colorado. Student here at CU.
To the topic:
I'm going to buy an rx-1 mtn (2003). Has 4500 miles on it. Anything i should expect to spend to get it ready for winter? Also, anything that i should check before i buy it?
What is the track length of this sled. Kind of a noob to 4-strokes, but a yamaha dude w/ everything else. Anyone have any ideas of what the market value is for this sled? I think this guy is giving me a screaming deal and to be honest it kind of raises some questions b/c i am driving 4 hours to pick it up. It's not stolen, i have heard it run and have seen recent pics of it.
Thanks for any and all input.

4500 miles on a mountan machine is pretty high unless he was riding the trails to get to the mountains. I'd check for known oil consumption issues and just visually inspect things closely. Make it a point to check the front bulkhead area (where the front A-frames hook to the chassis) inside and out. If its been in a accident and the skis are hit hard, it can tweak the bulkhead and its big money to replace. If it runs, its worth $4000.00 so $2500 is a steal even if its not perfect.

I've got 4200 miles on my mtn sled - and it does not use any oil or show any signs of abnormal wear. The only two things I need to do prior to my first ride is change the slides and change the oil. I think a lot of it has to do with whether or not the sled was maintained/serviced regularly.
Take a look at the primary (rollers), slides, and carbides. Look for torn or missing track lugs and general track condition. Ask for any maintenance records and if the Yamaha Mtn RX updates were installed (float bowl update, rear skid mount rivets, etc.).
The sled came from the factory with a 151" track, there are plenty of things you could do to it to enhance your riding this winter, but that depends on how much you want to spend and what your priorities are (power, weight, handling, etc.)
I live just down the road from Boulder, so if/when you pick it up let me know if you have any ?'s

tmk50, i may just do that, are you free anytime for me to come by and maybe you can give me some pointers on what to check out, new to the 4 stroke and actually have never looked at one inside a sled? Also need to know what i'm looking for about the 2003 updates I'm leaving for aspen on sunday. Anytime before then would be cool if you're free. Where in Denver are you?
Thanks again for the input from everyone.
