I,ve got a 06 Apex and want to lower clutch engagement to Approx. 2500 rpm, and keep my top rpm around 10,500-10,800.
We do some aggresive trail riding and a bit of lake racing. I,m presently running the blu/pnk/blu spring, which is the softest one, listed on the yamaha spring chart, that gives me a 3800 rpm engagement.. My questions are, is this possible, any pros or cons, and will any other brand springs fit that will give me the lower engagement ? Suppliers and part numbers would be great.

Hey Apexrider,

I'm looking to reduce clutch engagement RPM on my Apex too. Have you tried the blu/pnk/blu spring yet? If so, how did you like it?

I was thinking of going yel/pnk/yel to lower engagement rpm, but keep the shift points the same, or as close to stock as possible.

You can use the short springs from the late 90s clutches they had a different cover design. This way you will get it down to 2500 rpms, no problem.
I used P-P-P which had a 2800 rpms engagement and still held rpms pretty close up top.

Yamaha Pink-Blue-Pink (20 intial rate, 119 finish rate) is a spring that was new for 2009. It will have roughly 1500 rpm lower engagement than stock and has the same finish rate as stock. Part number 90501-600A1-00.

Thanks for the info guys. I,ve since traded my 06 for a 07 Apex Rtx. Got a couple of good rides on it before spring came. Allen, will the Yamaha Pink-Blue-Pink work in the 07 as well ? :4STroke:

Yes the Pink-Blue-Pink would work in the 07 as well.

Allen , what would the Pink-Blue-Pink spring do on a 2010 Vector ltx, Would it drop RPM engagement to low? Would like to drop the engagement some!

You can try tucking the weight under more with rollers...

On my 2 smoke...we made weight more agressive...at the start..thus tucking it under more. Had to go aftermarket to get that...

Make sure the belt is wide.

Thanks Allen, I,ll try that pink- blue -pink as soon as the snow flies, which will probably be late December for us here in Ontario, Canada.
