I just put in a boondocker gt25 turbo on my 06 apex mountain and I cheated a little, I am running it without a head shim and boost controller and I am running at the very most 10.2 lbs of boost averaging about 9.5 lbs. What would be the least octane you could run at 2000 feet above sea level and up at 5-7000 feet above sea level. I just got back from my first ride on it and I love the power!! it kicks butt over stock. I would like to hear from you eastern guys that ride trails at lower elevations to see what you are running for fuel?
Thanks for any help

You would be best to run race fuel from a sealed drum and something like VP C12 would be ideal. Most guys though are going to chime in and tell you to run 100LL from the airport. I myself run VP MS98L and mix it 50/50 with pump fuel for the most part. If I am going to go out trail riding I just run straight pump. If I am going to radar run I like the extra safety of a little octane.

use the boost octane calculator at the top of the page, if you are running 9.5 and above boost you will need to use good fuel, pump fuel will not be enough, I know alot of guys say they run on pump fuel with no problems but alot of guys have rebiult thier motors due to it as well. its your motor make the right decision.

I mixed VP C111 gas with premium for my first ride but I am going to maybe mix av-gas with c12 or c16 to give more boost to this sled in the mountains, plus I think I am going to get that head shim put on before I do any more riding just to be on the safe side. Could a guy get away from running race gas if you turn the boost down to 10 lbs and run premium pump gas with the head shim in? I want the power but I don't want the inconvenience of having to get fuel at the airport or if I need to re-fuel somewhere else on the trail and worry about my engine throwing a rod on the way back. Looks like I'll have to buy 2 sleds one for the prairies that is stock and then go nuts on my mountain sled if I can't run premium pump gas.

With a head shim you can easily run 10 pounds boost even at 1k elevation safely with good quality Canuck 91 octane.

I ran about 96 - 97 octane C111 and Premium at about 60/40 mix without my head shim in yet and my highest boost I reached was 10.2 on my boondocker box what do you think was that a little sketchy at 5500 ft elevation or would I have been safe? All I know is it ran awesome but I had a nagging thought in the back of my head saying oh god don't push it, or you'll blow it up!!

Just put the head shim in there.....you can make up for the tiny power loss by turning the boost up a pound or so. not worth blowing up a $6000 engine is it?
