The yellow warning light comes on in marginal snow conditions. Then the sled should shut off completely with the red warning light.guardrail said:Correct me if I'm wrong, I thought these sleds shut off when it gets to a certain temp?
If so, I think that would put the blame back on a defective coolant sensor or something and possible warranty coverage.

Coolant sensor doesn't work real good if there is no coolant to get a reading.... this happened to a buddy of mine in 08... he bought a 08 40th it had 27 miles on it when the motor seized solid... no warnings... no shutting down...
he was on his very first trip.... about 20 miles in thru 1 stud thru front exchanger coolant poured out so fast.. by the time he looked down saw the yellow light he shut it down..... sled would not start again.... it was cooked!!!!
the red lite only comes on if there is still coolant flowing.... and ITS HOT!

I believe that the automatic high temp shut down only happens if the machine is at idle, but not if you are riding it.

I Agree with you.
I have punctured my heat exchanger twice . warning lights came on but my sled never shut down.

Also if the mechanic can't diag. the problem in 1hr he should have called and asked for more diag time, when I worked on cars the diag time went toward the fix 8hrs is super steep,if your buddy gave him card blanch to diag problem that maybe a problem,if anything 2hrs diag tops Bob

The engine's junk, insurance would likely not have covered anyway. This was mechanical damage not due to impact but modifications, they're tough!!The engine repair far exceeds replacement price, $2000 to $3000 and you're on your way. Hudons salvage in Remsen NY has several, I was there a couple weeks ago getting RX1 stuff. Tough break, they don't call them idiot lights for nothing. Just Kidding!!
Find a new dealer, 8 hours to figure this out is silly. Good Luck with the fix!!

It's true, they will only shut themselves down at idle. I was helping a buddy get his sled out of deep snow and left mine idling on a 35 degree day. After a few minutes, the sled turns on the heat lamp and shut itself off. I restarted it immediately and the heat lamp was still on, and it ran fine. The light went off once I started riding it again and it got some snow on the exchanger.

My dealer confirmed it when I asked yesterday. The high temp shutdown will only take place at idle. When you are riding they expect the operator to heed the warning light (AKA idiot light).

Big Thanks to everyone for their feedback, I'm picking up the sled on Tuesday and will be shopping around for a used motor. OH, and a big Yellow light, like 5 inches around, for the dash that I can hook up to the temp light! LOL

Buy/ download or find a manual and tear it apart? you've got nothing to lose at this point, maybe you can figure out what needs replacing and maybe be able to fix it/ do some mods in the process? At least it'd be a good learning experience in how theyre put together?

"X 2" and if you find out it is fried, you can sell the salvagable parts while trying to find another motor on e-bay or other source. This is now the time to include the mods especially in the areas that are usually difficult to get to. Good luck and let us know what the outcome is going to be....
