Speed Sensor Code P1009

Agree completely. Only way that could happen is if speed sensor itself is bad, Or, problem with magnets in the that hard rubber plug in end if drive shaft. Like partially demonetized, damaged, etc. Keep us posted please.
Found speed sensor kind of out of position but still attached to chaincase.
Going to clean it and apply some black silicone to it and test drive.

Fingers crossed. You may have found it!

Last week when I was replacing the heat shields on my SideWinder I noticed my speedo sensor on the chain case seemed to be sticking out a bit. When I inspected the sensor it fell right off the chain case cover! I had not had any issues and was lucky to spot it. I reattached the sensor with a silicon bond around its outer edge and its secure now.
My sled has 5500 miles on it and there was very little signs of any bonding agent on it.

Well, my saga has finally come to a close. I drove up to my favorite dealer on Saturday to get the code cleared. He hooked up his cat scanner and was unable to clear it. He tried 4-5 times to no avail.

Today, I was talking on the phone with TD discussing a separate issue with my flasher. I mentioned the unclearable code on my zr9000. TD sent me a Eliminate/Clear Flash which wiped the ecu clean. I reloaded the tune and code is gone. Thank you TD?!!?

I have said it before but I will say it again....We are so fortunate to have these extremely advanced vendors that cater to our 998s!!!
Hurricane, TD, Precision...pick your poison they all bring incredible products to the table.
How sad is it that the most tuneable, highest performance, most reliable "tuned" sleds ever produced are now defunct:confused:

Do I possibly see some commonality? Sensor coming loose, both have headers.
Just asking....

If the header is causing this ? We would here way more reports of this issue. How many guys on here run the headers? Sorry DOC but I don't see any connection. Its probably more of a quality control issue/production inconsistency.

Great to hear you got it figured out, I had the same issue a few years ago with a sd26 code that wouldn’t clear and Dave at hurricane sent me the same Eliminate/Clear flash and all was good again.

I see no correlation.

The only disadvantage the header provides to the speed sensor, is it forces the speed sensor to read much higher speeds. Lol

You done worn out your speed sensor! To much use at 150MPH

Wire harness that runs down to the chaincase had rubbed thru on header heat shield. Speed sensor wire covering melted and copper was shorting out on heat shield.
White with orange wire for speed sensor.

I noticed yesterday my harness was touching the exhaust heat shield in the same area. Looks like it was starting to melt the covering. Tried to reposition and secure it. When I put the side panel on it pushes it in a little. Gonna try and get some heat wrap and cover that area

I Put a piece of firewall heat insulation on top of the heat shield where the harness is.
Might have to find some of the orange heat hose they used on the exhaust evap system on the automotive side.

I found with the rollover valve bypass, O2 sensor wiring, and misc added wiring all running up beside the exhaust heatshield it is difficult to keep everything a safe distance from the heat especially after you reinstall the side panel. I was very fussy about the routing of everything close to the exhaust and check it regularly to try to avoid heat damage. Even still my flasher ended with its case being melted a bit but fortunately still works fine.

This looked like it was starting to melt the covering also. After I peeled it apart is when I found the covering on the wires melted also.
Definitely an area of concern to watch.
