When I had the drive shaft out to change the track I checked all the bearings and noticed the speedo side had noticeable movement in it. I bought a new one, but I'm unsure how to get the old one off. I took out the bolt and speedo sensor/toothed wheel. I have both setscrews out of the bearing. Do you just slide back the white plastic piece behind the bearing and use a 3 jaw puller? How about pressing the bearing back on, I assume you need to press it into the exact same spot. I have a 5 ton press that I used to get the bearing on the brake side on/off. I just don't think I can fit the whole drive shaft in it to press on the speedo bearing.

Any words of advice or tips from people that have done this would be great, thanks!

That bearing on the inside of the tunnel side of the drive shaft has two set screws, if you look very carefully at the white plastic piece the two set screws will be there, they are allen keys i think 4mm or 3mm i cant remember of the top of my head. They are on the back wide of the bearing so you have have the chain case apart to slide the drive shaft over to get at them.

Your bearing is stuck on there. The new one doesn't need to be pressed on, should just slide right on. I suggest you use some anti seize under the new one.

Best bet if it doesn't slide off with minor persuasion, remove the chaincase cover and lower gear set. Then just pull the whole shaft out and work on it, at the bench. If you horse it around too much you run the risk of damaging the bearings on the chain case side. Plus you probably need to clean the case and inspect the case anyway. When reinstalling, make sure to assemble the chain case side first, lock everything down, then tighten the set screws on speed-o bearing. This will keep the side loads to a minimum.

I already had the chain case all apart and the driveshaft is sitting on my bench. I wouldn't dare try to replace that bearing with it inplace. Both setscrews are already out too. I jsut assumed you had to press it on like the bearing on the chaincase side. I'll try some methods of "minor" persuasion.

I was just looking at the sticky/ulmer track change post and he doesn't list any tq specs for the bolts on the driveshaft or chain case, or if I should use any locktite.

Any idea what do use for tq for all the different bolts?

Feel like an Idiot, didn't even think to check the sticky's. Thank for the realty check.
