I noticed today that on a pic I seen of an 03 the tight section of the front springs were at the bottom . Mine are at the top . What gives ?

I know that cat has installed the shocks on some models one way and the same shocks on other models the other way around. I don't think it matters (unless you need to provide clearance or mounting for remote resevoirs).

ger - The tight section should be on the bottom as the spring inner diameter at bottom is different from the upper end. The bottom end of the spring is narrower than the upper end to fit exactly into the spring stopper at the lower end of the shock. At least in my blue '03 RX-1 shortie.

RXRider is right they go small end down the large end will fit right over the top stop tight if you have them on backwards they wont be on the upper stop at all

That does it  this weekend I'm gonna go through the pain staking job of recoloring my multiple images that make up the spinning sled and make it the best color out there Buckeye thanks for bringing it to my attention again Silver as we both know is not only the best looking but also the fastest color out there  Kmer (Alf) you should have bought the silver one since you don't seem to be able to find any blue duct tape

Who changed their springs? I have mine on order from Bruce at Pioneer. Step by Step would be great guys. Here is how I am planning on doing it.
1. Loosen the spring off all the way.
2. Unbolt it from the upper mount (next to the airbox)
3. Take the adjusters off
4. Slide the spring off the shock
5. Put new springs on (Narrow End Down)
6. Replace adjusters
7. Bolt shock back to mount.
Anything I am missing here..? How long did each shock take?

the best shocks to put on a rx1 are the 440 snowcross cat front clickers .
the bolt right in and all you have to do is rivet the clicker on the belly pan or make 2 little slots for the clamps
ether way works,
or you can put the front shocks from a mzx440x not the rev but the 2002 mxz440x
