I was doing some patent and trademark searches last month. Found on trademarkia.com that Yamaha had trademarked both SRViper and SRVenom last year(2012). I'm guessing the SRVenom name will appear next February in the 2015 sled release. Hopefully a Yamaha built sled! Also, I found this patent drawing that is based on a current Phazer chassis. Could this be the next generation in snowmobile design for Yamaha?? Who knows. Sure is fun to speculate though. You guys who ride in the areas that Yamaha tests their sleds, keep your eyes open for crooked spindles in the corners....lol!

Good find! ;)!

Well considering it is called an "SR" as well I would assume it will be one more Cat re-badge. I would not be surprised to find a slightly enlarged 2 cylinder Phazer engine in this SR Venom using the ProCross chassis.

Here is where I think Yamaha is heading. I believe in 2015 the SR Viper will completely replace the FX Nytro and the SR Venom will completely replace the Phazer.

I think we will get new "real" Yamahas in the future, but I expect only the RX/RS and possibly a dedicated Mountain platform coming out of Japan in the future. This makes a lot of sense because Yamaha can get back to building and focusing on one main platform along with a highly modified version of it for a mountain sled.

Actually it makes a lot of business sense. The Yamaha snowmobile division can be much more profitable if Cat builds the more value based sport models and Yamaha just focuses on the flagship trail and touring chassis. Also I do think Yamaha wants to get more into the Mountain action, however I really think to get a piece of that pie with 4 strokes they do need to come up with a purpose built mountain sled. This is also something I can see them building in-house especially if we start looking at a factory super or turbo charger.

I predict Venom will be Phazer motored cat chassis.

Yep that makes sense to me although I could see a few horses added so they compete directly with the new ACE 900.

I think soon Yamaha's future vision will emerge. Cat building the high value Sport models and the flagship lines maintained in-house by Yamaha. This makes a lot of sense from a business standpoint if you really think about it.

Well if the Venom shows up next year as a lower powered machine and they are doing one new sled a year for 5 years that kills the idea of a turbo version of the Viper for 2015.

Kinda looks like a mountian sled design. Perfect for sidehilling!

All I know, is I need an updated Apex. My knees will thank me!

I remember a discussion about a patent with the same drawings and pivoting front end from a while back. Those patents were dated 2006. I suspect it was one of the concepts when developing the Phazer. I wonder if it is just being renewed. Aside from the front, it is almost identical to the current production Phazer.
