ST ZENON QUEBEC

Like I said it is Expensive for sure. No matter where. Especially if you saddle bag it. No doubt.
I am just saying 40 bucks for insurance should not be a deal breaker. When you look at the big picture (a whole season). Costs are big.
Can not be cheap if you want to ride sleds.
Not a poor mans game at all.

I agree, $40 bucks is nothing but like I said, once you factor in all the other costs and risks, is it really worth it?

I know tons of people travel to Quebec every year but I also heard that number is diminishing due to some of the issues mentioned above.

I was really hoping to get there this year, I still may, but the more I think about it the less appealing it is becoming.

- It just won't be St. Zenon. ;)!

Mt. Valin :dunno:

Quebec is well worth it. Do not let talk of one area make you give it up. We were speaking about st zenon if I remember right, kind of got off trail with this post.

I ride nearly 5000 miles a year in Quebec and never have had an issue.

Trails and services can not be beat anywhere.
To all you Ontario guys no offense intended I have not ridden there but I believe guys who have been there when they tell me they prefer Quebec. They are from the USA and could go wherever they want and for trails the decision is Quebec hands down.

The problem will be once you do ride in Quebec every where else is just not as good. Nothing beats Gaspe or Mt valin (but not On the weekend for sure way too crowded) for scenery and trail quality. For super highways and nice trails Abitibi is it. Charlevoix is another region not to be missed. It's all good.

You guys want to have a nice trip message me when it gets closer I will show you around no problem. Be glad to help you out.

Hi guys

I live in the south of Lanaudiere and ride alot in St-Zenon area and the trails are really nice. Many are groomed daily !!! The trail network give alot of loop options to explore the area without always getting on the same trails. In the 3 last years, we begin our season there on groomed trail between the 30 november and the 2nd week of december...

For security, the area is not worse or better than every where else... just do basic security like every where and it will be fine. Personnaly when I have to left the car and trailer for few days, I choose a place with an enclosed or watched parking for peace of mind, never had a problem.

The famous trail pass insurance have been put part of the trail pass few years ago to ensure everybody that ride on the trail have a valid insurance, in this way reducing alot the possibility that you can get involve in an accident with somebody that have no insurance... The cancellation have to be done in the 10 days you buy the pass with your insurance proof and you received the money back later. Maybe it is not the best system but it work well to eliminate insurance-less sled over our trails... I have my home insurance, always cancel the one from the pass and always got my money back...

I did few photo-ride reports last season, If you are interested, here a couple from the photo section:

and the first ride on groomed trail 2 years ago... 30 november !!!

Bye

i have ridden all over, southern ont, northern ont, northern quebec, never been in southern quebec, but from what i hear, its awesome, but i must say that ontario have kick #*$&@ trails just as good as quebec, some places better,i think alot of guys prefer quebec cuz of the nightly entertainment, when i sled,i base my opinions from the quality of the trail system, not nightlife, both province have excellent trail

Insurance is up to $42.00 this year, sent mine in yesterday and expect to get it back in March(with interest NOT!) :moon: Living in Ottawa I find the best trails are hands down in Quebec. If I lived in Pembroke up the valley, I would buy an Ont. pass,Ontario trails are second to none! Thanks to all the great folks who give up their time to make them so. But I am usually able to ride mid Dec. till lat Mar. ;)! and I just can't say the same about Eastern Ont. without driving 1.5-2 hrs.

Bye the way towing I have been admiring your photolog from Joliette for a couple of years now, great job and can't wait to see the first edition this year! :pics:

- I've been thinking of the Quebec option for an early season ride.
- I don't disagree that ON trails rock, but I won't be on them until probably the new year.

- From what I understand, Quebec trails are ready to go by the 2nd week of December.

- Is that a fair assumption?

I have been to all the above places mentioned and I would have to agree that nothhng compares to Quebec

Like I mentionned, for the last 3 years I have been able to start the season on groomed trails in St-Zenon area in those date. The year before some guys begin there in the mid december (i was not ready :o| ) but after warm temp delayed me to start on the 27 december...

The whole Quebec trail network wasn't all ready in the same time for sure. It's mother nature that have the final word but others here will confirm that the north of Lanaudiere is very often ready for Christmas Holidays .

Here are dated pic of 2007-2008 first ride

I agree with all that say that Quebec trails are the best I have ever ridden on. Been there six times. I never stayed at the Le Cabanon - too many obnoxious tourists - always stayed across Lake Stanilas (sp?) at Alain and Danny's at Le Refuge. That place was burned to the ground with Alain and Danny's murdered bodies inside. I was very upset when I heard this news, which flashed a spotlight on the mob-like activity that occurs in the St. Zenon area (though both these places are 20 miles/30 km from St. Zenon, the tiny village). Lots of theft at Le Cabanon as many locals know this is where to find wealthy Americans and their $100,000 worth of trucks, trailers and sleds (each). Supposedly, crooks and security guards in on the theft. Sleds are stolen, but so are trucks and trailers. Sleds and trucks are almost immediately hacked into parts and sold off. Police seem helpless or are in on it too. Like I said, all of this came to the attention of the public after the Le Refuge tragedy.

St. Zenon has a bad rap for catering to Americans. A good place to stay if you are going to St. Zenon is La Glaciere hotel. It's 20 miles closer and accomodations are very good. Its A LOT cheaper too! My favorite place to go in Quebec is Mont-Laurier. Doesn't have to crime problems or obnoxious tourists, and you can ride forever in any direction.

Totally agree with the above. Never personally had a prob at Le Cabanon but don't think I would stay there. The way their security is set up makes it highly unlikely that someone in security is not in on the thefts. Plenty of good other options available in the area and plenty of Le Cab defenders around to keep them going.

Haven't stayed at La Glaciere yet but its on my list next. Planned Mt Laurier last year but the snow was too thin while we were in QC.
