I know there is a long post about this kit, im really torn between what sled i want to replace my 09 xtx with, im not excited aboat the viper with all the issues, and dont like the articcat quality control that is going into these new vipers, will there be alot of upgrades for 2015??? Or should i buy a 2014 nytro xtx and install a star kit??? i guess im looking for a smoother ride out of xtx getting to be 50 years old and still like to play ride and try to ride like when i was 25 LOL I am not ready to move to a 2 up, we go outwest 1 time a year so the longer track is nice, what is your opion on the star kit, will it make me like the xtx more? :o|

I installed a star kit this year (and had them service/revalve my rear shocks) and I love it. It really makes the rear suspension work. The sled doesn't buck you when you hit a bump now...It eats the bump!

The star suspension basically eliminates the rear sliding portion of the xtx suspension and replaces it with a swing arm similar to that on a polaris.

Why buy a new nytro? It's virtually the same sled you already have, put the star kit in yours and run it.
I could do that but i would like to move up to a newer sled.

What kind of trails do you ride on? Around here they can get pretty rough and big bumps in them. Does the star suspension kit handle just stutter bumps or Big bumps as well?

Groomed trail variety pack....cloud 9 wide and fast, big whoops and stutter. IMO the star kit enhances the sled in all these conditions

I ran the star suspension kit all last year, also had the shocks re valved by star and could notice a big difference in ride quality, and no more sag in the xtx. To the other guys with the star suspension kit, how do you have your suspension set up?

Mine is set up exactly as they recommend...straps pulled one hole, center shock full preload, no preload on the front. I've got all my shock rebound/??? settings set to factory (6 & 11). I notice that if you set the rebound (top one) too high the front end gets twitchy. I don't mind it a little twitchy (less inside ski lift and confidence that the sled is going to go where I point it) but my wife doesn't like it. Having said that, I find it handles pretty good with stock skiis on factory settings...pretty much rails with occasional inside ski lift.

^same. although I run the rear and front shocks on 2-3 clicks from the softest. Makes the studders disappear and the big bumps that much nicer (99% trail rider here).

I bottom once in a blue moon, but usually its a BIG HOLE or bump or I get air. I'm 220lb with gear.

torsions are set to soft and I'm 210 + gear and I carry 12 l of gas on the back too....

I also have my torsion springs set to soft, I am going to try to play around with the centre shock pre load a bit more, right now I have mine 4 full turns from fully tight as thats where Robert said I could start since I am about 190 pounds with riding gear. Are you guys running your tracks as tight as the yamaha spec? Thats what star recommends but I haven't tried my track that tight as I am worried about the slider wear, I know this kit has moved the one idler wheel back a little so maybe it wont be as bad.

I have 345 miles on my XTX star kit with his shock rebuild too and have some inside ski lift. I run stock skis with woody duallys. The rear suspension eats up all I came across, but the trails were so good, it was a bad test, poor me! ;)! I want to work out the ski lift and tunnel icing and I will be happy with my XTX.

I run mine more or less to Yamaha spec ( I use Yamaha spec with 20lbs vice 22lbs just because of ease)...The only place I get slider wear is on the front curve (I have excel wheels). I just put new sliders on (regular not DuPont) and did over 200km yesterday and they still look like new...I was expecting to see the front curve section worn down but no signs of wear....
