So I got the front frame off to rebuild my front suspension. Since it's off I figured I'd do the starter fix a preventative measure. It has not failed yet and the sled only has 3800km's on it but I don't want to be somewhere far away when it decides to crap out. My question is, I see that there are two bolts holding the thing on but is there some kind of alignment mark for reinstallation I should be seeing? It's hard seeing under there. There is also a small wire attached to the body of the starter, not sure what that is, a ground maybe?

I appreciate the great instructions provided by Cannondale for the frame removal. It is a bit of work but simplifies oil filter removal immensely. I've read the FAQ but don't feel well enough informed to attempt this job quite yet. Hoping the posts to this thread clear that up for me.

Undo the two small bolts. The wire running through the bolt is a ground wire. Make sure it's shinny clean when you reinstall it. With the bolts out pull the starter to the left side of the sled. It fit's in a bore with a O ring so it takes a bit of effort (wiggle and pull}. Have a small container ready because your going to loose a small amount of oil. When the starters out you will see a green line that must align with the two marks on the starter case. Loosen the bolts a touch and align. Retighten one bolt and remove the other to apply loctite then do the other. Reinstall the starter and apply a small amount of grease on the O ring so it installs easily. Loctite the two small bolts in that hold the starter in place. Have a beer.

Sweet, that's how I originally thought it worked. Thanks for all the advice. Man its so nice to only have to pay for parts and not labor

Yup! labor aint cheap. Get out there and enjoy the trails, the way its looking we have easy another 3 weeks of riding!

I'm thinking riding until June. We have around 4 feet and drifts up to 6-8 feet and temps sitting around -26C for a high and -35C for the low.

Ahh, Yamahas I'd love to be out there riding right now but my sled is sitting in my garage in pieces waiting for parts. Why do ball joints have to be so expensive?? :o| Managed to get some time before the steering got to hairy to drive safely. Where in NB are ya? I'm on Trout Lake. The club has done wonders this year almost no moguls.

Club is doing wonders for sure. Just read on their page they just did a 24hrs of grooming, unreal. I hope they broke it up in shifts.

I am just off of Gromanville.
