hello i just bought a 2004 Yamaha RX warrior and i was just wondering how hard they are to start in the cold and when i say cold i mean -40 degrees Celsius or -40 Fahrenheit. i was just wondering if the motor will even turn over or if it turns over it just dosen't suck up the fuel?????

THANKS!!!!!

Cold starts

If you are worried about cold starting, install the in-line coolant heater. You can get them out of almost any parts catalog. Most auto parts places around here even carry them.

It will make it easy to start and better on the engine. Alot less warmup times also.

At those temps, I would get the coolant heater. In fact, I did right after a trip to Wawa. In -40 Degree temps, the sled started. But, it took several minutes of cranking. Now with the heater, it takes right off. I suspect that doing starts repeatedly in that temp would be tough on a battery, after a while.

you could always do what hammer did to his. he installed a new hot grip insert on his oil tank. it runs off of 12 volt power so you could always just plug it into the headlight plug on your buddys 2 smoke. heating the oil up is almost as good as heating the coolant up.

Never had a problem with my 04 starting in that kind of cold weather! A good battery and synthetic oil and it should start but a heater makes things easier on the machine!

In terms of starting on cold temperatures with an 04 Warrior, just make sure you are using semi-synthetic or synthetic oil. After the 2003-2004 season, Yamaha introduced a new semi-synthetic oil that makes it much easier to start the sled in really cold conditions. After I switched to semi-synthetic oil, I have never had a problem starting the sled including once at -45C.

Bender's Re-Action mono shock upgrade. 2 night project of your handy and cost about $ 1000.00. It uses your stock rails & Hyfax. Also is an excellent time to upgrade to a track that is worth a darn.

You could always drain the oil outa the resivoir and bring it in overnight if you had no electricity. It wouldnt be hard as there is a 10mm drain on the resivoir .

OW30 OR 0W40 SYNTHETIC , it will start til -40f after that the fuel does not want to vapourize, The engine will turn over but not fire, you have to pour hot water over the carbs and away it will go !

Shocks , Bruce at Pioneer Performance is best !
