Starting off of the primary

Has anyone out there tried turning one of these four-strokes over (3 or 4 cyl.) using a rope or webbing off of the primary? If so, was it a cold start? I've got a Nytro, and I'm thinking of trying it, but I want some input first. I'm the only four-stroke in my group, so the boost option is out. Thanks in advance!

They start pretty good that way when warm but I never tried it cold. Probably take a few pulls to get it loosened up and then turn on the ignition and try again, Ken.

tried when it was right around freezing outside and it ripped the rope out of my hand on the 1st pull and started on the 2nd...hold on tight cause it hurt

None of them are electric start? You can boost off any battery. Doesn't need to be a four stroke.

I'm aware of that, but thanks anyway. Nobody I ride with has electric start, and I wouldn't either, if I still had a 2-stroke.

There's an adapter you can buy to allow you to charge/boost off a 2-stroke's headlight socket. I think it was MPI that had them.

This contradicts information posted before, as well as what I thought I knew. It was my understanding that they would run with a dead battery, but I could be wrong. Anyone care to weigh in on this one?

Only from my own experience. The charging system is not powerful enough to run the sled AND charge a dead battery. The dead battery sucks it down.

that sucks...maybe unplug the headlights and turn the warmers right down and go for a high rpm rip to give it full power to charge? Just an idea.

I have been wondering about that as well. I'm sure if you did pull the fuse for the headlight and turn the handwarmers off it would help. It might at least be enough to get you where you need to go.
