when I first bought my Phazer last year I though it was odd that there was no pull start on it. And when I asked the dealer about it, he said that the motors were such high compression that you would not be able to pull the motor over. But then I saw a video of someone rope starting a phazer with little effort. So my question is why is there not a recoil on any of the four strokes?
p.s. I seached this and did not find any results, so plese dont get angry if this has allready been discussed

Does your car still have a crank start lever?

Pull starting a 4 stroke would be a bear to accomplish, especially in the cold. The Phazer that was rope started was probably still warm when they did it on the video.

Agree, and also remember that the phazer's have a auto decomp system (same as on wr450 dirt bike)

It may suck to try to pull start a 3 or 4 cylinder 4 stroke sled, but correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the efi system on these sleds that have it need a functional battery to run? Just like a car?
I would think that putting an emergency rope starter on the carbed sleds would have been a good idea. It may not have been easy to pull, but at least it was a possibility.
Bikes have not had kick starters for decades, but you can pop start them. A sled I don't think you could pop start. And if you could, how would that happen? It wouldn't be easy.

You can rope start a sled. But as has been said an efi with a dead battery may not start anyway. With a broken starter it would work.
But like trying to turn over my old Cat tripple with a recoil in the cold it would be a bear.
As starters are more reliable and sleds are getting 30,000 miles on them. They are 5 to 7 years old and still no real problems with the starters a recoil would never be used. Putting one on would be for no reason.
I carry a belt strap like Cat supplys with thier two strokes for a warm emergency start. I've never needed it and probably never will. I also carry a small set of booster cables and a 1amp charger. They take up so little room along with my first aid kit.
I have used the charger to warm the battery a couple times last year when -40. Bought a new battery this year to replace the old one because I didn't want to be trying to start a sled with a 5 year old battery this year.
So buy a Cat recoil emergency strap and throw it in with your tools if you want but I don't think you will ever use it. Unless maybe to start a two stroke with a broken recoil.
