A co-workers son just bought a new 2006 Grizzly 660. He was looking at buying a Honda and I helped lean them towards the 660. He got a good price on it for $5900. Apparently it just came out of the crate. The dealer did have a hard time starting it when they loaded it up to take it home. That first night they put on about 2.5 hrs. but they did have a hard time getting it started to get it off the trailer. It backfired a few times also. Once it was warmed up it ran OK. The next day they tried running it again and it absolutely would not start. It will run on choke, but then die after taking choke off. They said the plug looks dry. Of course they are taking it back to the dealer. I guess the reason I am posting this is to see if anyone knows of any situations like this with any new Grizzly 660's. Any insight is welcome.
thanks.......
thanks.......

my bike did the same thing.it would run on choke but would die if i'd take it off.i raised the idle screw a bit and i dont have any problems anymore.maybe just luck but it worked for me.
These bikes must be cold blooded as both of mine do the same thing. I have to play with the choke to get them to warm up for a bit at high idle before they'll run normally with the choke off.
Until it was mentioned here, I just figured it was normal and didn't think anything more about it. It does get better as the bike gets more miles.

thanks.......it's sounds like they found dirt and crud in the carbs/jets. I find it hard to believe this machine came straight from the crate. Sounds like sour gas to me. With that said my guess is it was run some time earlier this seaon or last, then sat around. I guess it started up off the trailer when they got it to the dealership. The dealer tried to make them take it back home and run a tank a of gas through it. They told him no, to keep it overnight and try it the next morning. Sure enough the dealer this morning couldn't get it running then proceeded to tear into it. Meanwhile they had a camo 660 demo model there and they asked to ride it. It fired off beautifully like it should. I guess it kind of irks me that this dealer probably knew what might be wrong but tried to sneak around it without doing what was right in the first place. The thing that stinks is they had to run back and forth a few times with their 4x4 pickup and trailer for the tune of about $80 in fuel expenses. Hopefully their luck will turn around and benefit many years of trouble free miles expected with a Yamaha product.
It's sad that there are a few handful of dealers who ruin things for everyone and like idiot riders who do the same thing for the rest of us they're not brand specific.
I guess the good thing in your friend's case is there's a high probability that he'll now have many years of trouble free service out of his machine.

Sounds like the pilot jet might be plugged.
