- 2014 Viper RTX SE (sold)
I have been killing myself trying to decide on what sled was to be my next sled. I have finally decided to get a Viper RTX SE (Blue/White). After selling my Fx Nytro xtx I truly had quite a hard time deciding what to buy. I was all over the board on this one. At one point I thought for sure I was going back to a 2-stroke. I was considering the 13' Cat 800 SP, the 13' Doo 800x, Doo 800 Renegade, Polaris 800 SB and at one point I was interested in the 1200 Doo as well. The Doo got my attention because of the R-Motion and the Linq system for storage but I felt like any 2-stroke the engine was a risk (IMO...any 2-stroke because of todays quality of Gas is a risk). In the end...I had great luck on my last two Yamaha's (Apex and FX Nytro) and the 4-stroke won out. Yes, I wanted more HP/speed etc but I have a combined over 10,000 miles on my last two Yamaha's and going back to 2-stroke gave me a nervous feeling. I had Cats before Yamaha so I still have a spot in my heart for Cat and I love the Yamaha 4-Strokes so I consider the Viper a win win for me. I was a bit nervous about the first year Viper but after reading about the updates/differences of the sleds that are being shipped compared to the earlier demo's I figured this is the way to go. I get the engine I love and a great handling/riding sled.
I think one of the biggest factors for my decision was how awesome this TY site is...you guys are the best. Thanks to Mr. Sled of course for the time and energy you put in to a great site!!
I do have a question right off the bat. I see in the accessory options there is a front skid plate but also a rear skid plate. Does anyone have any knowledge (yet) on which one is the better/must add on? Or both? What do you think you guys are gonna go with?
My other add-ons will be 135 Studs, billet blocks, knee pads, a bag or two and I will throw on a set of pilot skis I kept off my Fx Nytro.

Well I can tell ya I left Blue 3 yrs ago and had a little fun on a couple (3) Rush Pro R 800's but the less than 9 miles to the gallon the $12 a quart VES gold oil and one blown motor at under 750 miles I have no faith in 2 strokes either. I pulled the trigger on an XTX. I missed the pull of the big block 4 strokes - loved all of the rx's and apex's I had just could not take the maintenance on the chasis but now I think we got a runner

I was in the same boat so I just got the front skid plate and if I need the other one I will order it later but I was thinking the front one is more needed then the rear one

Glad you stayed blue mark now I don't have to figure out skidoo clutching lol, I see some boost in the future better start hideing some cash so the wife doesn't find out.
The rear skid plate protects the chaincase and also the brake area that both hang down lower than the rest of the belly, along with the center aluminum triangle (where the access panel to the oil filter is...which is not very thick). They would be likely places to smack something and could require some very pricey repairs. I would without a doubt do the rear over the front .... if you don't do both. The front skid plate is pretty small and doesn't cover much area. Take a look when your sleds show up and you will agree.

Racewerx has a skid plate out that will have an access port for the oil to drain similiar to the procross 1100 skid plate. Another option.

Yes boost! I have already started the "secret" stash for that. I am still trying to figure out how to break the news to her about the actual purchase of the new sled!
