Some of you probably already know this, but this
weekend was the first time I got to(had to) try this.
Basically its using reverse to slow your descent
and it works nicely. Its generally easier to switch to R
before you start down, but there was one occasion where
I switched after starting(you have to lock up the track when engaging)
I don't recommend it, its tough to hit that lil button while sliding down a face.
Just thought I'd share.

When I picture this technique in my head, I just don't see good things happening. Anyone else feel the same?

I've read plenty about it in the past, and gave it a try
you are not going full throttle in reverse, just giving it a goose or two.
I wouldn't try it on anything but soft snow, all that happens is the rear
sinks down(as it digs) and it slows you, let off the gas and the clutch
releases and you keep rolling down hill.
I don't know about the gear box, but if I bet its cheaper to replace a
couple gears than a front end when your sled slides into a tree.
This is for steep descents where you cannot stop, prior technique for
me was to drag my feet(no reverse)

I found in the mountains alot of guys do this with most brands of sleds ,its a good way to go steep and especially if you don't have a choice.

WOW I may be missing something here but this seems like the worst idea I've heard in a while. I've never heard of this "technique" before and would hate to try it, I guess if it works for you go for it but I'm gonna stick with my standard mix of milking the brake and engine braking.

I guess you never climb anything that is very steep anyway with the Phazer
That May be why you come up with hair brain Ideas like that.
Try it on a 45 degree or steeper slope that is 1/2 mile long in spring conditions --- what hapens if you brake loose a Avalanche --- I guess you just back out over it.

Yeah iv seen it done.. by rich people.. lol but yeah i dont thik its very good for ur sled the idea of moving forwards then backwards while still moving forward.. dont think i would try it
