Hey yall
I have my sled in the warm garage to do a few things, one of which is the steering boots that are ripped.
Do we drop the steering ball joint out or just loosen that black nut on the rod?
I'm always cautious of breaking something, thats why I ask before I wrench!
Also noticed how sloppy these steering balls are. I can move the steering arm up and down and hear a little click, click. That's how much play there is.
I know sloppy steering has been done to death on these sleds, whats the fix for this particular part of the steering, er does it even need to be fixed...? I dont ride on trails.
Thanks everybody

Gave up on the steering boot replacement as it was snowing outside, needed to ride instead of wrench!
Anyway when I took one boot off to take a look, man is there ever alot of play where the tierod connects under the airbox. I could see a lot of movement up and down here...

lots of up/down movement where you see those plastic washers
But my original question is do you take the tierod off to change the boot? from which end?

You can take it off the spindle. There are washers in there that like to stay stuck to the spindle.
It should go Nut,spindle, washer, ball, washer, spindle, bolt goes through it all
Don't back the black nut out it will change the toe of the skis.
Upbushman's kit is great!

Yeah I saw them on there but couldn't match the #'s for the outside ends. Have you tried the ones from Royal, if so, how's the quality?fxnytro said:royal distributing has them from 12 or 15 bucks

X2 On UP's kit. If your just doing the boots, take them off at the spindles and save some skin. As for the play your looking at, it's probably in the steering mixer. I thought the wifes Phazer was sloppy throughout but it turned out to be in the mixer and the upper plastic steering collar. The actual ends like all 13 or something stupid like that where not that worn.
