At 700 miles my upper and lower steering post bushings are SHOT! A worn upper bushing gives you play forward and back, a worn lower gives you slop when you try and turn the bars, about 3/4" in my case. The post is exactly 1.000" and the bushings are anywhere from 1.030-1.040 worn. The upper one is no biggie, but to change the lower the fuel tank has to come out. I will say my Apex is a mountain and I do alot of boondocking so I'm often hanging off the mountain strap and with the tall riser I'm sure it puts alot of force on those bushings.
I know others have had this problem.....Is yamaha covering it yet? If so, I'll just wait and add it to my list ;) ===SRXSRULE===

Ive only read of one case of this on the apex/attack side...

Ive read about it alot on the moutain side..

I guess it has something to do the the pulling on the handle bar loup when side hilling etc..

I dont know why yamaha wouldnt cover it.. if its under warranty and low milage

WOW! Same Exact thing.

This is been driving me nuts since I discovered it last weekend.

I tried spraying ZEP to get rid of the squeak with no success.

The squeak is coming from that nylon/rubber bushing thats above/behind the chaincase, And the tie rod end on the bottom of the steering post. I did fix my upper steering post bushing tonight and I had to take .010" of each side of the bushing and then .030" off one end of each steel sleave. Still have the play in the turn but now fron to back. ===SRXSRULE===
