If anyone in the New York area sees another Yamaha with a chrome gas cap on it, ask them where they got it from. My cap had black pinstripe on the very bottom of it and instead of the o-ring seal that comes standard with the billet gas cap, mine has the flat sponge gasket from the plastic gas cap glued into it (because I lost the o-ring gasket). I don't want it back but I would like to know why someone would steal a gas cap from another persons sled............................Cubby

Well Chubby I would have to say I'm not suprised. With some of the people in this world today just be happy they didn't take the whole sled. My buddy had his whole sled stolen in Michgan (nothing special 97 Polaris) same thing whats the point? It is statisticly proven that there will always be a certain percentage of these kinds of people in the world. It's a shame to know some sorry bastard would steal a freakin gas cap! :o|

Cubby,

I worried about the same thing happening, some POS stealing my billet gas cap. I put the stock plastic cap on it when I am going to ride on tours when I will be leaving the sled parked overnight. It sucks to have to worry about crap like this.

WOW....my buddies always thought I was nutz when I carried the OEM cap a s a spare with me on every trip. I always switched them at night.

See...I'M NOT NUTZ!!

A locking one would kick serious butt. Or better yet a gas cap like a motorcycle has. I have an Alpine alarm with a motion detector for my sled that i plug in if I am staying somewhere overnight.

a whole gas cap? gee really?

thats horrible, how will you sleep at night?

LOL- I lost my truck, trailer, sled, 3 buddies sleds, all my clothes, parts, tools, boots,gear, cameras, got back the truck, thats all.
But i'm sorrry for your loss, lets start a search party. Check all the pawnshops guys.

hehe j/k

that sucks cubby, people like that drive me nuts! I worry about my sled enough as it is when I'm parked overnight somewhere. A gas cap...............WTF. Smart idea to always carry the spare and change it at night though.

KBX-now that really sucks.

It would probably help if your stuff wasnt soo sweet.

phew- thought I was going to get flamed for that one!

I am super nervous every time, after the theft, I had my first ever accident, hit a tree with the sled after coming out of a slide, and my insurance company informed me;
"after the high number of claims (1 theft, 1 accident, both sled) we are no longer able to cover you. Insurance revoked, my car went from 900/yr to 5500/yr, finally found co-operators, and it dropped to a modest 2500/yr. After 10 months, 5 years were up, from the first one and I am back to 1000/yr, but HFS that sucked.

Ummmm, nope, no flames here. Dude your loss was pretty severe compared to mine. Like I said in my first post, I didnt want the friggin cap back or wanna prosecute the thief. I just wanted to find out why the heck someone would steal a gas cap from a sled on a trail. The hell with the gas cap, I was friggin stranded.....................Cubby
