I've been doing some research trying to figure out the best option for stretching my track. I was wanting to go 162, but I think I'm going to go with 159. Since I'm pretty new to this kind of stuff I figured I'd get some advice from the guys that have done it.
I found some brackets from tracks usa to extend the skid to 159, and finding a 159 track with a 2.52 pitch is easy. I was gonna go with 8 or 9 inch wheels (opinions on either?)
That's were I'm currently at I'm sure I need something else. Feel free to chime in guys, thanks.

If it were me I would do the skid setback witch will reduce the length of rail extension u will need and also improve the approach angle of your track. When u make your rails that long you are more likely to have fatigue issues with your rails because they have no support back there. They will end up cracking if you ride hard.

hmm, the major sticking point for me not going 162 was not having to move the skid. If you think I a better approach angle is that important and I should move the skid I should just go ahead and go with the 162. Thoughts?
What ever you decide i would move the skid first. Its a huge improvement, helps it not trench so bad. if you decide on a 162 you will have to remove rear snow flap and will end up getting allot of spray on your back from track unless u extend the tunnel and rear bar... And make sure you have a good rear shock to match your weight and/or riding style. The stock one is pretty soft and you will end up getting allot of rebound from the skid with minimal dampening witch I believe contributed to my rails cracking just an fyi

You may have to address gearing it lower too. Going from 144 to that much more track will eat up some power. I would move the skid back and put a 151 to 153 on it. Unless you plan to do more mods to it.

I've seen cracking in the rails from a hardridden 153 with extensions. Also adds leverage on an already soft suspension.

Was that with stock suspension?

Well I'm picking up a set of Ohlins rear suspension, this should prevent any suspension problems I would have ran into extending the track. I'm hitting the snowmobile expo next weekend in puyallup washington, hoping I can find a good deal on a track.
Yeah Öhlins are great suspensions will surely not be the suspension that will break first

Couple pictures of the progress today. Got the graphic wrapping done, installed the rollover valve kit, mountain addiction storage system, RSI bars and handguards. Ordering the 159 track next week. GYTR front shocks are at the machine ship getting milled down to the correct width. Ohlins rear suspension will be going in when I do the track swap. Eventually adding powderhound skis, and betterboards.

Picked up the gytr clicker shocks from the machine shop yesterday and got them installed. I'll post pics this weekend. Ordering the 159 track today.

Let me know how the 162 fits if you decide to do it. I won't be installing mine until January. I found a skid out of an 09 M-1000 and super pumped to get rid of the good for nothing stock skid.

I went with the 159 polaris series IV. so I wouldn't have to change to 3.0 pitch drivers.
