Not being able to afford an XTX, I'm considering purchasing a used 08 RTX and installing the TracksUSA 144"x1.75 kit with the tipped up rails. I'll also throw on some mountain skis. I ride 50/50 on/off trail and would like to take her west this year.
Has anybody done this and what should I look for or be concerned with.
Thanks!

I'm having a exact same kind of sled. Mine is allready done and looks good. I get it on monday. Here in Finland you can order ready RTX with tipped TraxUsa tipped extensions. I also have Powder hound skis and a steering mod ready made.
Haven't driven it but in Finnish sled forum they'll say that it's an exellent sled.

I did that exact thing a year ago. Bought a 08 RTX, stretched it to a 144" with tracksusa extension kit and a backcountry 1.75" track.
I am very happy with the sled..
The stretch job is done in one day. And you should be ready to run.
The only "tricky" part is to remove the tunnell protectors from the cooler without damaging the cooler. (They have to be cut out..)
I got some Yamaha MTX skis for my sled that i used last season, but this season im testing out the Slydog Powderhounds on my sled.
Good luck with your new sled. I am sure you will be happy with it.
Also here is a pic of my sled right after the stretch:

I see compared to my extension that I have one extra pair of wheels before the end wheels. My wheels are located where the extension starts.

No one that has tried Hartman Inc. = http://www.hartmaninc.com/08nytrofxrtx.html
They have a kit with relocated suspension for better off trail condition. The only problem I can see is increased load on the front and heavy steering?
How big is the differense with the regular extension? I hate when I get stuck tying to start after a stop
. As long as one has speed it is ok.

Get some MTX (153") slides and cut them to the correct lenght while you have the slides on your workbench and the extension kit mounted.

Dimebag and JCLG, those babes are sexy! You guys have been very helpful.
I'm having a difficult time deciding between the 144 extensions and tip up rails from OFT which would make it handle nice on the trail and the straight extensions and Slide Back Kit from Tom Hartman which would make it handle better in the deep. Evidently Tom doesn't offer tip up rails. Any input on this would be helpful! Thanks.

I have'nt tried a stretched nytro with straight rails. But the tipped up ones is working very well.
I was considering both Hartman, Tracksusa and OFT when i was in your situation. I personally dont like the hartman kit because it doesnt support slides all the way like the OFT and tracksusa kits.
The reason i went with tracksusa is that they offered a package with both extension kit and a new track.
In the end I would recommend the OFT kit.. Those guys are great to deal with and have a excellent service. Just purchased a Roll over tether kit from them. Very helpful guys!
Good luck on your decision

Whichever kit you go with, get rail extensions that extend the hyfax all the way to the back.
