I just tried installing these carbides on the pilot 5.7 skiis..The front of the bar doesn't go into the ski.. Is this normal? Seem like it could snag things like a trailer edge or a railway track..Maybe I got the wrong one..

shaper bars

I have the 6 inch bars on my pilots. You may have to pound them in with a rubber mallet, They fit real tight because of the angled studs,

I did pound them on with a rubber mallet..Tightened the screws..But when you look at the bottom of the ski. The shaper bars stick out..Like the old carbides the front would hide in the ski..Not on these..Its a big square that looks like it could hit something..

Do you mean to pound the bottom?? Force it into the plastic..I don't really want to damage the ski..

Heres what I mean..Actually it does kind of look like I can wedge them in..

1st picture is with stud boy shaper bar

2nd is with the normal carbide

mine dont fit super tight either, just get them in as good as you can,and watch when you cross any tracks that are sticking up.(railroad)

I ground mine narrower so they fit in. Can't have them sticking out.

Good call on grinding it down..I'm also gonna try and bend it a lil so the angle isn't so steep..I've had sleds stop abruptly on trailers and train tracks before..Not much fun

So this is common on Pilots with Shaper bars>? KnappAttack, can you post a pic of your ground down shapers? Mike on another note, did you ever get the issue of the ski tiped up to much resolved? I remember something about you thought the rubber bumper being to hard overnight or something?

On the top of the shaper bar, just grind down to the narrow portion of the bar, I did it the whole way along the top of the bar to get it to sit into the channel. No matter what I have tried, the pilots still dart too much for my taste. I even went as far as to use Bergstroms and 3/8" ski-shims and added a 1/4" rubber behind the bumper. It wants to push using that setup. I'm going to try the Snow Trackers, just not sure weather to put them on the stock skis, or the 6.9 pilots. The pilots do float better.

Tried that with the piots and the results were not good at all. It had a mind of its own. Worst thing I have ever expirenced. No more pipe mods for me. Snow Trackers are next. They sound like the cats meow from the guys that have tried them.

In my experience square never fits round. Studboy sends out square ends & will need to be ground to fit right. Same on precision skis. Grind away.
