I went with a taller lug track (1.5) rather than studding and it is awsome!!!!!!. Throwing in 96 studs or more adds alot of rotational mass. Might not be noticable on a 800cc sled but on a 500 it will take away from acceleration and top end. if you ride alot of ice try a camoplast ice ripper only about 6lbs heaver than a stock track vs throwing 40lbs of studs in it.

I put 96 Studboy 1.080" Power points in my stock track. Only noticed 2 MPH difference when I did, and it was a lot more controlable after I put them in. Especially for stopping. I did eventually go to the taller lug track too, but I also put 96 studs in that track too.

Tunnel Protector?
I've been told to make sure I put in a tunnel protector if I stud my stock 2007 Phazer track. When I look for the tunnel protector kit through Yamaha the website only shows a kit for '08 and newer. Can I use this kit on my '07? If not any idea where I can ket a tunnel protector kit for my 2007?

For tunnel proctectors i just used a old pair of track slidders and screwed them to the top of my tunnel and it works great

Where do you decide to put the protectors (spacing)? Ive wondered about these quite a bit lol being new to sleds in all, I take it that the whole idea is that the studs hit the protectors as opposed to the tunnel correct?
Is the track somewhat slack when the suspension is compressd or tense?
I want to run a Freeride track (I guess just 121 now that Im reading that the 136 is discontinued) and I cant imagine riding w/out studs, they were def 100% necesary last winter on my other sleds especially where I ride.
My only fear is that Im mainly a quad MXer and I plan to be doing some jumping on mine and am scared to death to have some stud issue....(diggin in etc...)
Pazer kid w/ the old hyfax for protectors dont you worry bout studs diggin in and grabbing hold? Obviously its been workin.
BTW polcatdoo, 07 and up are all the same Im 99% sure.

I put the sliders just beside the studs on the top of the tunnel so the track hits the protectors befor the studs hit the tunnel. I would think they would grab pretty good if you had them so the studs would hit it. they seem to work pretty good, but I was taking a friend for a ride one day and with the added weight of the extra person it liked to wheelie and it got to high and my studs ripped up the very back of my tunnel just underneith of the tool box! so if you do any thing like that you might wanna put somthing farther back also.

Answered my own question
I did find Schmidt Brothers (http://www.schmidtbrosmotorsports.com/) makes an aftermarket tunnel protector and it is much cheaper than what Yamaha is showing for 08-09 yamahas.
