Learned a hard lesson yesterday on the risks of not running studs on icey trails! OUCH!!
So I got a couple of questions as I have never ran studs before. So here we go.
1. What is the best number and pattern for my XTX?
2. What type and brand of stud is the best? Least likely to tear out.
Thanks guys.
Gonna pop a couple muscle relaxers and take it easy for the day.

First off...... Glad to hear you are ok (or atleast enough to still be posting here!!!)
Secondly... On my CF, I found that a 2 stud per bar pattern provided plenty of traction and stopping grip. I kept all mine down the centre in a V between the windows, A pattern that repeats the least will give you the best results. I have never liked outside studds as I find they pull out easy. Go with the recommended amount for the HP of your sled, because if you put to few in then you are liable to tear them out easy since each stud is taking more load. If you jump on woody's website I am pretty sure they have a few sample patterns for the ripsaw track, along with recommended lengths for each track.

Seach my studding post, I did the same as TVBrian 2 studs per row for safety that equals 114 studs.
I went with Top Gun studs with polimer "plastic" backers...less weight=more top end less likely to pull out....I have over 3000km with no pull outs or benzs!!

I put in 96 Top Dawg's from Snow Studs .com 1.38 in length in my RTX SE. I haven't had one problem with them, they have a good pattern for 96 down the middle or 114 or 120 down the middle for the XTX (can't remember the exact number for XTX). They are Stainless and comparable to the Woody's Gold Diggers at a cheaper price. Lifetime warranty on bending and breaking. Good studs so far, I have 1700 miles on them, oh and round aluminum backers.

I studded my xtx with 114 down the middle and installed 6" carbides. Still let's me slide the rear end around when I want to but more importantly I can STOP!!! 114 seems like plenty. (Used the same pattern as Woodydog.)
I went the less expensive route with woody's signature series and square backers.
