Hey Guys, I'm just about to pre-order a 2013 Apex SE. What is the deal w/ studding the track. I'm also going to get the 5 Yr Warrantee, and thought I have read some where on this site that it must be done by the dealer or Warrantee is void? Thanks for any advise!

Try these.
No issues with mine bone stock. 6,000 KM. Woody's 1.325's Megabytes.

I don't think Yamaha says they cover studded tracks no matter who does them. Don't worry about it. I have 45,000 km on studded Yamaha Ripsaw's with no pullouts yet. As long as you don't spin on larger rocks you will be fine.

No. Bone stock as stated above.
They come with tunnel protectors from the factory.
Did you read the bulletin in the threads?

I would be careful, i just used the same studs and have some pretty bad makes in the exhaust and a few knicks in the rear heat exchanger. i think that the tunnel protectors actually have some give in them and with the track ballooning they will hit if you ride hard enough or weigh more than you should. I was sure i wouldnt need them however this is my summer project everything else on this sled is great i would also suggest a set of aggressive snotrackers

my opinon is the problem with a lot of guys running studs is that they still run the track way to loose. just becasue it has the internal drives and protectors doesn't mean you run it so loose that it balloons and hits the top of the tunnel. pull outs are another issue, either like mentioned above spinning the track on rocks across roads etc or just someone tightening them way to tight or loose. i've also noticed that if you use single square backers they can cut into the track. doubles don't seem to have that problem. I always run round backers when using singles. never had any issues with pull thrus or hitting the exchanger and all the sleds i've ever owned. my 98 SRX has 23000Km with 192 studs and never had an issue with the 2 tracks i've run in it. my XTX has some that are bent but i have removed those and will replace, but i figure it's becasue the previous owner didn't use enough studs so that stresses the others. i will be adding 2 to each row that do not have any for next year .
also if you do stud make sure you do not stud in the centre and leave over an inch of space between studs so that the heads do not come in contact with the shocks.

I have a '12 Apex XTX where I riveted on some 1/4" hyfax(cut them down my self) to the tunnel protectos. Hauck makes a set already for them, and saw them on a riders sled on the trails. Would have bought them if I knew about them. Link: http://www.hauckpowersportsinc.com/page ... uct/60284#
The other issue is if you look at how the tunnel protectors are connected to the bottom of the tunnel, they are a "C" mount that will flex quite a bit, and the clearance on the short tracks(128") is considerably less than the 144" tracks. I reinforced mine w/ rubber mounts that I sandwiched and siliconed in place inside of the "C" mount, to prevent them from flexing. No dings on exhaust or exchangers w/ 228 1.34" roetin studs.

The factory protector mounts are U shaped and flex when you bottom out hard. I did a simple fix with 1/8 thick by 3/4 flat stock aluminum. Not a big job and problem free after 5000k of hard riding. Reach up and grab the protectors and you can flex them up by hand. Mine are solid now. Search back through my posts, I posted pics. I run 1.325 studs.

wonder if anyone has been able to run REAL studs for that 1.25 " track... my cat with the same lug track runs a 1.625 " stud....Ive felt bad for the apex dudes who made power only to blow the track out...

I had a 08 nytro studded with woody mega bites, 144 singles up the middle. I had 3 pull outs in 4500 miles and the 3rd one went through the heat exchanger. I parted ways with that sled and bought a 2012 apex xtx I am considering putting on a ice attack xt. It gets good reviews if you understand what its purpose is.

studs
I installed the woodys grandmaster 1.375, 144 doubled up right down the middle, no studs on the outside of the track, works great, the grandmaster stud is designed for single ply tracks and has less of a chance of being pulled out. ran them for 2500 kms this winter, they did the job perfectly, no pull outs, look like brand new still, lots of traction, totally recommend these studs, I ran the gold diggers on all my other sleds over the years, found the carbides break off and you get the odd pull out. these grandmasters seem to perform as promised (so far). I have not heard too many good reviews on the pre-studded tracks, personally I would stay away from them. no need for extra tunnel protectors, I have heard some guys are getting studs hitting the exup unit, but mine is perfect, dont run to long of a stud and it should not be a problem, I also keep the track fairly tight, so it does not slap the underside of the tunnel. might wear out the sliders a little sooner but that is a small price to pay in the long run.

Re: studs
And that is why I said if you understand what they are designed for. You can actually read alot about this track on dootalk. Skidoo offers some kind of upgrade your track promo and it seems a lot of guys take advantage of it. If you expect this track to hook up on ice like studs it is the wrong track for you. If you are looking for a bit of confidence in the in the corners and in braking this is the track for you. Plus it is lighter than a studded track so you can have extra traction and not loose a bit of top end.
