I have just picked up my 2013 Apex SE and for safety reasons want to install studs. Does anyone know if the 2013 has better tunnel protection? or would a stud length of 1.187 still be effective to allow less protrusion yet still provide some control on ice? I notice that there is only approximately 1/4" space between the track lugs and the protectors. Should I reduce that space? Sure wish there was enough space without making alterations.
Please give me your thoughts. Thanks, John.

you need to search this is covered very many times boils down to fixing what is there to work properly and you will be fine.

Congrats and welcome to TY ;)!

Like what was mentioned, your best to do a search but with your's being a 2013 you might have a hard time finding info if Yamaha has made any changes?

I prefer a Google search, just type in your question and I am sure you will get TY posts about last years and ealier sleds.

Good luck

If you read thru here you will find many opinions on this topic. There have been some issues with studs on the Apex. I have personally seen a stud tear and go right thru the front heat exchanger. Luckily it was noticed right away. There are few things that can take your sleds motor out, and that is one of them. The other issue with the Apex and a track with studs is they eat up your bogey wheels FAST.

Most of the guys I ride with run the Camoplast Ice Attak XT Pre-studded track. There are a few different versions of this type of track out there. The studs are actually inside the lugs of the track. The lugs are 1.22 and the studs stick out an additional .03 which keeps the track the normal height without studs.

When I purchased my sled, I sold my track with 650 miles on it that had 144 studs down the center for $350.00. I then purchased the Ice Attak XT for $575.00 The $225 I spent was close to what the studs would have cost on a new track. Knowing what the cost to replace the heat exchanger was, I personally feel like it was a good move. I am sure with your sled, the track being brand new, you would be able to get a pretty decent amount for it. Just an option for you.

The downsides to this track are that it is a single ply track, where the other tracks are built more like a radial tire, this track is molded around the studs. This means every hole is clipped, vs every 3rd hole. (The single ply isnt strong enough without the clips and can tear without them. The main issue with these clips is that they wear your hyfax faster. Solution here is to purchase the DuPont hyfax. With the 2013 Apex SE, you will probably want to purchase these anyways.

Or you can simply pick it out. I would keep the pattern down the middle. Stay away from the outside of the track. Be prepared to replace your inside wheels every season and when you start to have studs pulling thru the track, dont wait for it to get worse. Get it replaced.

Good luck!

Hey Guys---I just picked up a 2013 Apex SE and was getting ready to pull skid, fix tunel protectors and stud down middle, but I kind of like the idea of using aCamoplast Ice Attak XT Pre-studded track. I checked Tracks USA and they are priced at $650 plus shipping. Any suggestions on other retailers? Would much rather pay $575.00. Thanks

what is your location? if you are anywhere near milwaukee go to the snow show this weekend and find the booth that sells nothing but tracks and has this one on display you can haggle with them alittle at least i did last year and got a 121 for cheap i cant remember exactly how much but it was good. if you go with this track you wont be disapointed.

Hey there ILVMAX4, are you sure you should have bought the Apex? I think your riding style would be better suited for the Venture.

Thanks for the info---I may try and make Milwaukee show. If anyone else has a good seller please respond or any guys that have used a Camoplast Ice Attak XT Pre-studded track have an opion on performance one way or another PLEASE respond.

PS----Nytrozula, you need to go to the Nytro forum and figure out how to get that Nytro moded out enough to keep up w/ an Apex!

I have that track for $605 plus s/h.Let me know if you need one.Rich

Thanks Rich--Would it be better if I had it shipped to WI 53105 or IL 60513? Can you let me know price w/ shipping?

To IL. then you dont have to pay WI. tax.Shipping=$25 so total of $630 shipped.
