What do you guys think about turboing a Rx1 mtn -03?
The sled has about 2000 miles on it, so far so good. The problem I'm wondering about is that the sled takes some oil. I've read somewhere on this forum that the -03 do consume some oil due to poor piston rings, and much oil in to the combustion chamber is not so good I guess, especially when adding boost? More oil into the combustion, easier for it to start knocking right?
I can't say for sure exactly how much oil it takes, but I would guess at nearly 1L/(0.2gal) at 700-750 miles.
What do you think?
Thanks.

The oil consumption can be reduced significantly buy using Ring Free or Sea Foam Treatment.
Make sure you have the updated mountain fuel bowls then install the turbo kit, You won't regret it if you take your time do your homework and clutch it properly.
I turbocharged my 03 after 4000 grueling miles and now have 3 race seasons on it now over 350 hp with all stock internals.
Granted I drag race on ice but your good to around 300 in the mountains.
I can help you with all of this is you want.
Ted.

Oh, I never heard of Ring Free or Sea Foam Treatment. How does that kind of threatments work?
About the bowls, I'm currently looking after some updated bowls but they're pretty hard to find theese days I think.
Regarding a Turbokit, I think I will go for MCX, mostly because I'm Swede and MCX is located 400km from me, IF I cannot find any used kit's which is a little bit nicer to my wallet!
2 Other things, clutching, I need help with that
Last thing for now, the track I'm using does not work with no-slip wheels. The track is missing some of the needed holes for the wheels. Is this fixable or is a new track the only way out?

The reason RX1s use oil is because the rings get carbon build up, I beleive because they run too cold, but Yamaha reformulated they're oil to reduce this problem, and then in 04 changed the piston design to further improve the oil control.
Remove the spark plugs, set the pistons at all the same height or mid stroke, pour 3 oz of ring free or sea foam in the cylinders, let is sit overnight, carefully turn the engine over several times with the plugs out, then install the plugs and start the engine, and let it run until warm, it will smoke alot, then immediately Change the oil and filter, Use Yamaha 0-30 4 stroke oil.
Then you can add recommended amount of ring free or sea foam to gas for maintaining clean rings and valves.
I have a set of used 04 carbs that have the right bowls on them.
MCX is a Very High Quality turbo kit you can't go wrong.
I can help with the clutching, carb caps, float bowl tees, and anything else you need.

Put a turbo in it, you'll never look back!
Make a budget before you start buying all the stuff you need, and you need more then you first think, money has a tendency to slip thru your fingers before you got a perfect running sled.
Ted know what you need, use his knowledge so you don't buy stuff that don't work and you don't need!
You don't have to buy a new track, you can open the ports and put clips in them so you can install extrovert drivers, but when your budget lets you, i recommend an Challenger Extreme, the change in grip is unreal!
Have you looked at already Turboed sleds?
You might make a very good deal in an already turboed sled, i looked @ blocket and found some very nice sleds to really good price.
Good luck!
